If one doesn't want to be a true teacher at heart, then flight instructing indeed is not the route to take. If you don't WANT to instruct or have the capacity to successfully teach a difficult subject, flight instructing is not the way to go. I know that. This is not all what I'm gracing UND with my presence Dugie. I actually want to teach aviation. I have always had a passion to share knowledge with others and find innovative ways to work around their learning retention/comprehension obstacles. I don't have any hurry to get "that corporate" or "that airline" job because I'd be very comfortable flight instructing part time while continuing my current job I've had for the past 6 years in real estate appraisal. I'm a mirror image of my father in every way as far as interests and personality - My father flight instructed part time for several years while operating his medium sized dental lab. He was very happy doing this as he has a passion to teach. He has a passion to give dental seminars, mentor new dental technicians, and also teach aviation. I too agree that we need instructors who are both passionate teachers at heart and excellent aviators. But, if one happens to have a goal of moving up to a more challenging aviation job, there is nothing wrong with seeing flight instructing as a stepping stone.

ok so far ive gotten a reply from caffiene that he will stay and instruct here because he likes it here, fair enough. any other reasons? and as for why im staying here despite my intense hatred of this state/city well lets enumerate some reasons 1) financial. i dont have the resources to get up and move again. also, tuition is relatively cheap here, and i dont have the resources to go pay out of state costs again somewhere new 2) length of program. i looked into OU pretty seriously but due to program structures i would have to spend another 3 or 4 years there as the course structure does not line up very well. i only have 2 more years here. 3) quality of school/instruction/equipment. obviously we have great stuff here. mind you, if i was a first semester freshman who came here, as opposed to a 70 hour transfer student, i would have promptly got up and left as soon as my first semester was over. however in my situation im ready to just ####in get done with school and get on with my life. doesnt mean i still cant hate the place while im here. school/aviation here = good state/city/everythingelse = bad

I heard it is thurs, fri, and sat. Has anybody else been assigned students? If so, what courses are you teaching?

The fall workshops runs all day Thursday and Friday. Half days on Saturday and Monday. As for students, I was given two 414's, 221 and a 222. Congrats to everyone that was hired. | |

Relax there, Mikey. I don't think any part-timers have been assigned yet, from what I've heard. I should hope they will in the next couple of days, since they're all getting back from the weekend and vacations! On another note, it's quite nice of them to supply us with epaulets, but I'd appreciate a shirt to go along with it! Pricey buggers, I mean, don't they know we're FLIGHT INSTRUCTORS? I'm gunna be eating ramen for two weeks to afford this shirt! |

I would bet 1700 on thursday and friday. Probably less on the weekends. Just a hunch though. They must have not gotten to the "R" section of the alphabet, cuz I'm still yet to be assigned! Maybe they'll run out of 102's and give me a 415 or something :-D |

Where is everyone picking up their shirts from? Is there a place in town or do they need to be ordered online?

There is, or used to be, a mens suit shop next to Applebees on Columbia road, that sells pilot shirts. If that doesn't work out, try http://www.stopoverstore.com/product...d2/696/nid/678 the commander version of the Van Heusen line is a great shirt

If you guys need pilot shirts in a hurry, either aerostop in Ryan hall, or there is a uniform shop beside quiznos on 32nd and columbia that has a bunch in stock. Also, does anyone know anything about a program called opentime... someone told me it's a program where instructors post students who need picked up when they're gone, or something like that, but i can't find it on UND anywhere.
