So I just finished up 325 the other day and was expecting to get my temporary certificate on the spot or maybe a day later. However this is not the case. Apparently it can take a couple weeks or more!! I'm not going to go into a huge rant about it, but I very well could. I'll probably do it anyway. So how long did it take you guys to get your temporary certificates?

Approximately 7 years, considering how long it takes for your documents to move up the 53 ranks of the political powers at UND, then go through a rigorous Judicial Review process, followed by the mandatory 8 week UND Logbook Hostage Program stay in locked archives, where you documents sit there untouched (required by UND Aerospace, Inc. law 44394.C.34)

| I was told by records that they cannot process your certificate until your ground school grade has been entered into AIMS. So, if you finish your flying before grades are posted… It'll obviously seem to take longer. |

this is how the FSDO explained it to me when i called to complain about a temp which i thought took too long to arrive. granted it's a couple years back, but i imagine the process hasn't changed much.

I still don't see why I had to surrender my PPL. I mean, I haven't recieved a new certificate yet, so why would I have to get rid of it? I was just so happy to finish the stage check that I didn't care to question anything at the time. Not that I could have changed anything.

the school has no authority to give out temporaries, and certainly an FBO wouldn't. the temporary airman certificate comes from the FAA. in the part 61 world, the DE gives the applicant a temporary on the spot after a checkride is passed. they then send in the appropriate paperwork and the FAA sends a permanent. UND has to do the same, but they don't seem to have the authority to issue a temporary. the logic is beyond me. if the FAA trusts the school enough to have in-house examining, they should trust it enough to be able to issue temporaries.
