Well since I couldn't come out for the Getting Started, and since they don't allow freshman to register over the computer, I had to call in and register over the phone. I just got off the phone with UND and so I'm done. I'm taking Aviation Orientation, Meteorology, German, World Regional Geography, and American Government. It adds up to 15 credits. She said that the flying for the first semester is closed, which is fine I guess. However, she didn't know anything about the Private Pilot "Test Course" they offer and said that when I get there I'll have to inquire. So I guess I'll take that in the Spring? I want to fly in the fall obviously, but that's not an option. They weren't too helpful with that part of registration. Anyway, I'm just aiming to get those general eds out of the way right now. There is one thing I'm a little pissed about though. They gave me my housing assignment a few weeks ago and the contact information for my roommate. I'm with a "local" who is a Sophomore that parties, drinks and is just there for the good time. I'm pretty pissed about that since I requested a roommate back in the Fall and my friend put me down as well. So I sent the form you can send in online requesting a change, and my friend just did the same. Hopefully we'll end up together, if not then just get me away from my roommate. So after I registered, I called back and talked to someone in housing who was completely useless. I got pretty stern with the guy and just straight up told him that I was on top of it in the FALL and just now they are telling me that I'm with some goon. He said to call back tomorrow when the lady incharge of it all is there. So I'll just take it from there. Other than that, I'm pretty excited to be coming out there. Except for that accent that I listened to for about 90 minutes today. She asked me what my summer plans were and so I told her that I'm out here on the island, working at the airport having a good time. And she comes back saying "OHHH!!!! FER FUN!!" I could hardly hold in my burst of laughter. Anyway, feel free to comment on any of this. And thanks to everyone who helped me get squared away.Adam |

Oh Fer Cute on the "Oh Fer Fun" comment! But yeah man, try to get that room thing sorted out. I happened to room with a local freshman year, and it wasn't really all that dandy. I registered over the phone too my first semester cause I was not paying the airfare to get out there. If you need any help come fall, just hit me up.

Sorry you were having so many difficulties this early in the game with housing and all. i was worried about getting the private course in the fall semester when i started so i graduated high school and 2 weeks after that i was at UND doing the private course and that worked very well even though i didnt really have a summer. did they tell you what teachers you got? the private test course is available to students that have 30 hours or more but they have to be aproved by the asst. chief flight instructor. the test course is also open to students who already have their Private certificate. everyone has to take the private ground school though (i believe). there is a min of 14 flight lessons for the test course also. hope that helps.

That sucks that they're jerking you around about housing. Just keep calling back until they change your roommate.

Adam, did you just call the phone number it listed for your roomate? I'm with someone from Colorado Springs so I'm guessing their aviation. I too was not able to get flying in for the fall, but I'm considering changing majors from flying to ATC.

Blue side- I have no clue...I actually was looking all over facebook lastnight to try and find him. If your name is Michael, we might have a winner.

I called back again today and talked to the lady who does it all. Surprise....she was no help at all. I thought she was brain dead actually. She said I'll find out soon whether my request is approved or denied. If it's denied, they won't be hearing the last of me. I was on top of this thing LAST YEAR and just now they are telling me that it didn't even matter. Oh well, I'll just have to wait. SYRFlyer - Yeah, and actually they gave me the wrong phone number the first time. When they sent another letter they gave me a different number to call. |
