Default Anyone want to do a LOFT sim tonight

Anybody free to do a LOFT sim with me tonight from 6-8? I think the only requirement is to have completed 221. I think most of you have my phone number, but I'll probably give one of you guys a call later. I'm in class right now.(learning performance charts, AGAIN, doesn't exactly require lots of attention. )

What is a loft sim? Flying those sims on the upper loft of Ryan Hall?

Line Oriented Flight Training. Basically you get two people together and act as a crew, in the sim in this case.

It's in the multi sim so it should be somewhat interesting if you haven't been through multi yet.

You know you could just zip right over here. I think its kind of odd they don't check who your sim partner is at all. I could probably bring a law student in there. That plan would be foiled right away I'm sure. But I think anyone thats ever played a little microsoft flight sim could do alright. The only reason they'd do alright is I have a tendacy not to split the work load up. Not that it's all the neccessary to do in a seminole.

You should be able to bring anyone in you want, I brought my wife in for one of mine. Note to self, don't bring a woman who can't pronounce Pitot.

I would have done it but I had an oral stage, and now I am at work, but I loved those sims. Nothing like flying with a buddy, we all had good laughs, enjoyed the time, acted stupid, and yet performed amazingly good. I remember my instructor decided to give us all failures but two on the sim becuase we were fooling around too much. We defied him and made it to land. Hey another fun thing is Hypertwin mode.

I had a friend who was getting ready for the Dash 8 and flying the hypertwin and they had me try that sim, because they had a bet if I would crash when they failed my engine on take off. Then they decided to add full aft CG and give me IMC. Fun times, I just hate the name LOFT.
Especially in class what the heck did it mean anyway?

One of my buddies that backed out was able to do it anyway. Thanks anyway guys. It was kinda nuts. How I managed to do holding with one engine inop within standards, I dont know. I felt like I was going all over the place. The thing that sucked about the engine failure was that my left alternator had failed and my right engine was the one that quit. We had complete electrical failure about 5 minutes before breaking out. Then the left main wouldn't come down at all, even when pulling the emergency gear extension. The thing I like about engine failures, is there are no MDAs or going around.(in the seminole at least) If you dont break out, or the runway isn't even close to you when you finally do get it insight, too bad, go lower and land the biotch. Makes it interesting. Granted, in real life it would probably be scary as hell.

In hindsight, would you guys consider leaving the right engine windmilling in that situation? I was still getting alternator output with the engine failed. Then obviously a dual alternator failure when we shut it down.

We decided later that it was probably better to deal with an electrical failure than drift down to low due to too much drag and slam into something. I dunno though, I think there could be certain circumstances where I would leave it going, at least to a point where I'm pretty sure I could make it to the airport within about 20 minutes.

I've got one more before the stage, but they are getting progressively harder, however, like Tugrul said, my buddy and I screwed around A LOT. Especially during the failures. lol I think it was more just keeping our cool than screwing around, but it was more fun the failures that compiled on top of eachother.

If you know the GPS like the back of your hand, I'll consider it. Really, you just need to know how to read checklists and set up the GPS. I think a situation could come up to where I would need you to enter coms and nav information from the approach plate. So it might be best if I get someone thats been through 222. I'll let you know though.

That was the other thing I did, I did one more turn in holding after the dual alternator failure. I should declared and emergency and got the hell down right away. It worked out alright anyway, but that was a risky choice that I didn't think about until later. Thats what these sims are for. To learn stuff like that.

They do loft sims in warriors too when you're in 222. They're not required at least. Most of the time it starts out being like a crew but then you taking over everything at the end when things go down hill because your partner is messing up real bad for whatever reason.

Anyone free to do one tonight from 5:00-7:00? I'm at work right now, so if you know my phone number and want to do this, give me a call and leave a message. I can check on here periodically as well.
