EXTREME flight planning

When you dont have a yard stick to draw a course line across a couple sectionals, no problem. Use a door!!!

LOL, did you rip your door down to do that? Where are you going? And why aren't you using Flitestar to plan your XC?

Yes, I took down the linen closet door out of my bathroom specifically to do this. I do usually use flight star, but thought I'd try the map flip thing that written on one of the inside panels of the sectional. I had lots of time to plan this and was looking for something long and straight but with no success. Then I saw the door and how easily it came off and thought... why not? haha

I was only going to Sioux Falls, which makes this even more rediculous I think.

This totally reminds me of my flight planning days. I was going from Long Beach to some airport down in Temecula (never ended up flying there in the end) but I used a 10 foot ladder that I found in my neighbors' garage. I had to do the whole planning out in the ally behind my house--got some weird looks, that's for sure.

Yeah, no kidding. The only reason I went down there was because a buddy of mine was doing the exact same flight at the same time. My instructor and I went out to dinner with his family so that was good. There was lots of interesting things to see on the way down too. Like terrain! haha And dang near a complete rain circle instead of a rainbow. So that was neat.

No, he left right behind me about 5 minutes later. The winds up high weren't that great, so I figured 5500 would be perfectly sufficiant at making good time. My buddy went up to either 7500 or 9500. I dont remember. He ended just barely passing me about 15 miles from sioux falls. Just enough that approach had to PUT me behind him. That kinda sucked, I figured while he was screwing around climbing up that high, I'd be shooting along at 160 already. But I also began my descent a couple miles late, so I think it would have been about even. But yeah, it was a pretty good time. One of the better flying experiances at least. Flight training does kinda take the fun out of flying and it gets a little old after awhile. Fun flights or at lest pseudo fun flights like this bring the magic back.
