Default where do you guys work???

Hey guys, I'll be coming next fall and I need a job. I work in an upscale fish restaurant here in Seal Beach CA, and I was wondering what Grand Forks had to offer by way of food service. I know you guys have like Applebees and Red Lobster and stuff, but is there any other places??? Also, what other kinds of jobs are out there???

thnx,

Bauer

This place lacks shops and restaurants, but there are places such as
Applebees
Red Lobster
Boston's
Paradiso
Toasted Frog
Mc Donalds
Burger King
Burger Time
Green Mill
Happy Joes

sheesh thats all I can think of off the wall

Our friend Txaviatior may be able to help and give you more insight about it

if you have previous upscale cooking experience id head directly to Sander's or the Toasted Frog.

wages will probably be 1/2 to 1/3 of what you're used to though.

I second that. I highly recommend you try Sander's. That's the most upscale restaurant in Grand Forks (I know, sad, but it's still pretty nice), and Toasted Frog is a brand new hip martini/restaurant lounge...might want to try those places. Also, Blue Moose may be a source of good tip income.

Otherwise, you'll be working at Applebee's where locals commonly tip less than good.

I wasn't saying it was upscale - just the most upscale. Actually, how about I rephrase and say "the highest on the scale of GF dining service quality"...which we know isn't much haha

ive been kicking it at the frog several nights a week

monday - $6 martinis (normal is $8, and theyre tasty with top shelf stuff! 3 pages of different martinis!)

wednesday - $3 Pacifico

the atmosphere is nice and not all glaring neon beer signs and sports tv

the clientele are a bit more mature, not all WOO WOOO wild drunken sorority hoes or frat daddys

the staff is cool and the owner/managers are very attentive and interested in listening to your feedback.

give it a shot.

Yes, the owner was sincerely concerned about how my experience was... very nice people.

I also currently work at the Service center for summer, after being initially hired as an RA at the Dorms (Resident Assistant) then put as an alternate. stores, UND, are places you could work, and yeh good luck with the higher end job haha or place here youll soon find out Grand Forks isent like Cali. though I hear some places in downtown are ok liek Toasted Frog and Joe Dimagio's is ok.

No more Joe Dimaggio's Chris! Angel, Jace, DJ, and I wanted to go there yesterday but they changed the name and it is now an over 21 establishment called Joe Blacks. Very ####ty inside the new place and sad to see Grand Forks has lost something that was fairly great. Joe Dimaggio's was the first place I had dinner when I came to Grand Forks in 2004 for UND Aviation Camp.

I can't believe they now have a Boston's in GF! We only have one of those in the whole D/FW metroplex, let alone Grand Forks.

I am NOT exaggerating - the 4 times that I've tried Boston's, every time we had to wait 45-55 minutes for our food. The time we had to wait 55 minutes was at 3pm - it took several requests to finally get the manager in order to discuss our complaint. We got the entire meal for free. Let's just say I will never eat there again after the continuous bad service.

The food is REALLY good - it's too bad that the service is bad. I know two waiters who work there who hate having to take in all the customer complaints for the long wait for the food. They told me it's due to lack of staffing in the kitchen - but it's never staffed enough.

Maybe someday their management will get the hint. It's a great establishment, but bad management.

Actually it was the 28th small metropolitan area (unless you aren't talking about Grand Forks? I think you actually might be talking about NY???). And if anyone thinks that making $12.50/hr laying epoxy on windenergy blades is a career and making $10 an hour at Amazon.com as a Customer Service Representative, you'll love the Forbes article (as that's exactly what it touts):

Yes, I actually read that in Forbes a couple of weeks ago and debated posting it, and then I simply forgot. I think it came out really nice and made GF become a bit more noticed.

I especially liked:

I worked at Dietrich's Bus Service. It was a fun job driving the kids to school. Also you can do other trips for the high school athletics to places like Fargo or Devils Lake and such. You can do party buses too, but those get kinda crazy, yet I met my current lady friend from one of them. They'll hire anyone, and they work around your class schedule.

They do make the dough! I usually have to make appointments to get to see them. And we are talking about a regular customer here.
