Default Getting There--Airline Travel/Tickets...

Hey guys, so i just purchased my ticket from LAX to GFK for the Getting Started Program--set me back about $440 bux...totally sux...but oh well...

my real question is, for those of you who fly back, do you mostly buy one way tickets? Like when I fly out there at the start of the year (around the 17th of August) should I just by a one way ticket or should i buy an open-ended one? or what do you guys do???

any insight would be a lot of help...thanx!!!

I did this last june right after I graduated from High school. Its basically a 3-4 day orientation thing to help get you started. tours of the campus, a long lecture about college life and life at UND, gets you registered for all your necessary accounts even classes, other online accounts, placment test in math and english, I met a few people. this program is not necessary but its ok. I go tmy date in June as ive mentioned then I flew back, we atually drove from MSP. its up to you, but make sure you have your room assignment if you choose to get a one way ended ticket.

440 is cheap as well for a ticket here as I spent 500 something but its only 250 LAX-MSP. the above post was a response to Kristie's mysteriously dissappeared post, yours as well. 440, eh surprised it wasent 444 or 440.40 heh.

I buy round trip tickets when I fly to/from school. You can check online to see the final exam schedule and then plan your flights accordingly.

To fly from MSP-GFK is almost as much as my two segments to DTW then MSP! I'm guessing many choose to drive to either Fargo or MSP.

You guys need to use www.studentuniverse.com. I always bought my tickets on there. I usually saved between 30-50%.

The cheapest gas in GFK is around $2.79 right now. I've seen Valley Dairy at $2.89 yesterday.

I bought a membership at Sam's Club for that purpose... to save on gas. The problem is the stupid gas station does not have 92 Octane which my car requires... or else... I'll get some nice engine knocking issues.

I wouldn't really call Jace's engine a performance engine persay. By my definition at least. But a honda B16 is just kick ass! The new ones have that stupid i-vtec on them now though. (I think?)

i-vtec is better for economy but vtec is better for performance. At least, thats what one of my honda buddies tells me.

Yeah, kinda sucks. Depending on how you look at it, I guess its not all that bad. I paid an extra 7 dollars to fill my tank over when it was $2.11. I really dont see it making re-think my spending habits towards other things until it gets around 4-6 dollars a gallon. Hopefully it never comes to that.

It really depends on how you define a performance engine. A 160HP B16A2 Honda engine is only 1.6 liters so, 100HP per liter is considered by many to be a well-engineered performance engine.. That's a lot of horsepower to be pulling out of a tiny naturally-aspirated engine that also offers 32 MPG. I define it differently...so my car's engine is not a performance engine in my definition, but it does perform well (for what it is).

If you take a look at the Euro-version E36 BMW M3 which is only 3.2 liters and pumps out 321 HP, that's again 100 HP per liter. This is what I consider a high performance engine. The characteristics of the engine's torque curve...power band...response...power-to-weight ratio...engineering...etc... is how I think an engine should have it's performance status determined.

but horsepower is not what gets you off the line

Note: Only do this if enrolled at UND..apparently the freshman getting started program and all the other stuff does not count. Meh, looks like NWA will get $16 more.

Your car is light now so 160hp, and the torque you have + manual kicks butt.

Now a 208hp m30 in an e34, that is a super cruiser with lovley torque but darn heavy car and useless with an automatic, especially a dead one.

BMW's S38, is just lovley, that's what I want.

or. the v10 500hp m5? anyone hehehehehe
still I love the straight 6 S38 individual butterlfly performance engine

Ah those engineers

Haha yeah but put 5 full grown men in my car and you can really feel the weight (and lack of torque!). When coming home from the Grand Forks Symphony Orchesta concert on the Columbia Ave onramp, it was heavy enough to get the rear end to slide out and oversteer! Yikes... that was a bit scary because once the FWD car oversteers, there's no going back .

Angel might remember feeling a slight 8 inch left shift in the rear end hahaha (oh wait, that sounded nasty...I'm talking about cars now people)

Edit: I have a few pictures of an E30 M3 with an S38 engine transplant!!! It fit, but barely. The S38 engine is by far the best sounding ever - watch the car chase in Ronin and you'll see an E34 M5 sporting the lovely S38 sound...mmmmmm...makes me horny just hearing it.
