Default SAMA and Go-Jets

If ya'll haven't seen this

http://studentservices.aero.und.edu/....php?JobID=904

Do your part and stay away. No need to be rude or anything like that, just aim for as small of a showing at their booth as possible.

I realize it is a job, and it is easy for people like me who have jobs to take the "moral high ground", but this is beyond semantics. What Go-Jets is doing is bad for the entire industry. I'm not talking just pay or QOL issues, but the whole reason and method for the existance of this airline is underhanded.

You all have a chance to make a small difference in the airline industry, seize the oppurtunity.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to JC, and as of now I'm just finishing up my Commercial Cert, and I have an AF job to keep me secure, so I have virtually ZERO experience in the job hunting aspect of aviation. Out of curiosity, what is the deal with SAMA?

This is a good question. GoJets is what they call an alter-ego airline that was created to get around a union contract with reduced wages and work rules. The owner of Trans States Airlines (TSA), Houlas Kanodia, was offered the chance to fly CRJ700's for United Airlines. Since United was in the game of seeking out the lowest bidder, Houlas had no choice but to keep his price low to remain competitive. Houlas went to the pilots of TSA and offered them the chance to fly the CRJ's, but the payrates were absolutely terrible compared to other 70 seat operators. Now also keep in mind that the TSA pilots are ALPA members with a contract negotiated through ALPA! Meanwhile, the pilots of TSA told Houlas to shove his idea unless he was willing to pay them accordingly to fly a 70 seat airplane. Houlas then came up with the brilliant idea to circumvent the TSA contract and create GoJets airline. He pushed on with the same crappy pay and work rules, just found other suckers to fly for these rates! Now you can imagine how angry the TSA pilots were, they were losing their United Express flying because GoJets could do it for cheaper and at the same time haul more people. You see, before GoJets, TSA pilots were doing the United Express flying with their ERJs. A ripple effect also occurred about the same time. Since GoJets was willing to fly for such low rates it became difficult for other United Express carriers to remain cost competitive. Can you now see why Air Wisconsin is flying for US Airways instead of United?

GoJets would be a fantastic opportunity if Houlas would have negotiated with the TSA pilots and let them rightfully fly what is theirs. Instead, he chose to be the typical snake he is and circumvent their contract.

I have never worked for TSA ever, but I was an ALPA member during this whole fiasco. It is an absolute slap in the face when a company does this to a pilot group. What is even a bigger slap in the face is when a fellow pilot blatantly disrespects other pilots and accepts employment with a company such as GoJets.

I hope that helps you out in understanding this whole mess. Please help do your part in this by spreading the word to other students during the SAMA career fair. Don't even take the time to approach the GoJets booth and give them the satisfaction of acknowledgement.

I'm currently a SAMA officer and have been for the past 4 years. I've already received some e-mails and talked to a few UND grads who have voiced their concerns with Go-Jet attending the Career Fair. I know what Go-Jet is all about and I've tried to explain it to some of the other officers. I'm not sure if we contacted them to attend the career fair or if we got the contacts through student services. I was surprised to see them on the list of companies attending. I haven't had a chance to talk to the Career Fair directors, to see who contact them. As of now, Go-Jet is still schedule to attend the Career Fair and conduct interviews. There is not a whole lot I can do, except to spread the word and tell people to check out http://www.gojetpilots.com to learn more about them.

I would like to think that they are struggling to find qualified pilots as they are hiring both Captains and First Officers. They probably contacted UND rather than SAMA contacting them. Nonetheless, keep up the good work by spreading the news.

Jace, you can picket all you want, but we have all seen how they regard union practices!

It might have been them. The airplanes say Operated by GoJets on the lower left side of the ac fuselage just aft of the pax door. Their call sign is "Gateway" but don't confuse it with "Getaway" which is USA 3000.

And when you hear Gateway, key your mic.

(n.b. not really, especially don't do this at ORD since they're able to track you now. There are times to voice your issues, but on an active radio frequency is not one of them)

That is exactly what happened in ORD when they first started flying! I wasn't in ORD on those couple of days, but I heard it was an absolute mess. There are other much more profesional ways to handle your anger and frustration.
