I like to think I did my part to make UND Aero a good place to go to school and I'm fairly sure everyone of my students, stage checkeees, and such would say the same. But to come here, see a forum for just UND and think great some place to catch up with old students, friends, etc and all I see is whining and moaning about nothing, yup it irks me. Am I going to change these attitudes, nope, not in the least, life will straighten them out on it's own. It is one thing to not like where you are and mumble and grumble about, we have all been there done that, got the tee shirt. I cringe everytime I have to do a LAX or PDX trip. These people, to me, are snobs, could care less about you, do not do their jobs well, etc. BUT, I don't complain, I say hello, good day, thank you, good bye, etc, tip the van driver that was 20 minutes late picking us up, tip the maids that try to burst into the room at 1 in the afternoon while we are sleeping, on and on and on.

If it were just some college kids blowing off steam, I can see that, but these guys making the most noise, are going to be professional pilots here fairly shortly and these kind of "entitlement" attitudes, distain for rules and authority, do not go away very quickly, not who I want to be sharing the sky with, or have controlling me in and out of EWR's airspace.

I guess I take this kind of stuff about UND and ND a bit personnaly as Im sure you would if it was your home state and town, and it is not so much the complaining, I get that, it's the thought process that being from Cali, or NYC or a foreign country makes you better than other people. UND is offering a great oppurtunity and opens doors earlier in this career field than any other aero program, hands down. You would think there would be a bit more pride and appreciation for those that laid that ground work for the current students.

College is about, making friends, drinking way too much beer in relation to the distance to the nearest bathroom, nailing dorm furniture to the ceiling, etc. You came to the school for two reasons, a good education and to have fun, UND offers both, if you are willing to think outside the box and broaden your horizons. Sitting around pissing and moaning about snow, simplot, (find something original like one of the school colors being pink!) doesn't seem too fun to me, but riding the snocat trails up and down the I29 corridor, or ice fishing (don't have the fire directly on the ice!) etc does. It is there, its not what the big cities offer, but it is there and it is every bit as fun, especially with a large group of people, 10 cases of Bud ice, 30 inner tubes and nothing but a Saturday afternoon to float away with...
Man, I was completely with you until the bud ice part...c'mon you gotta be able to do better than that ;-)

Hey! It's called a budget. What other beer can you get for mass quatity and little price, of coures there is a reason for that, and thus the importance of only drinking it when surrounded by a large body of water!

I know what your saying. Sure personally, I'm not a fan of Grand Forks, but I do understand that people do live here by choice. And by constantly making fun of it would make several people angry. I choose to live in Seattle. Poeple don't like it there either & I wouldn't want them bashing it constantly. I think that we should lay off the constant irritations of grand forks bashing. Or leave that for our personal lives outside of JC.

Yeah I think I've done my share of GF bashing. Hehe... no more of it for now on. I think I'm preaching to the choir when someone makes a negative opinion about this place... I shall not waste my breath.

Lately I've been enjoying living here. The nice weather (so far this month), cool thunderstorms (which I love to watch), autocrossing, biking, golfing, jogging, road trips, etcetera are things I look forward to in Spring and Summer...it helps make this place a bit more livable.

I'll give it to ya, the winters suck if you don't like the cold, and if you didn't grow up with it, you won't be used to it. Just like I can not stand the heat, even on the beach, if it is over 80 I am miserable.

Jason, you like motocross, try snowmobiling in the winter. Plenty of places you can rent good sleds from. Just invest in some nuclear powered thermal underwear and a good pair of mittens, because 20 F at 60 MPH is down right cold.

no kidding, did you see the lightning the other night (which subsequently knocked out the approach radar at the base). I'm pissed though, they installed these extremely bright lights in the parking lot outside my apartment. So now, even at 2am it looks like its daytime out my window. No more thunderstorm watching for me :-(

Haha yeah I've been snowmobiling in CA in the winter ...lots of good places to ride in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I have some pretty good thermal underwear that I use a lot in the winter...

Hey I heard that in East Grand Forks you can ride snowmobiles on the streets. I saw a speed limit sign with another speed limit sign directly below showing a snowmobile picture (with a lower speed limit for the snowmobile). I'm assuming it's legal to ride on the streets there?

That's not good...don't want light polution at night. I love watching thunderstorms - so much fun to sit out on the patio and watch the "light" show.

I have a few pics of aurora borealis... during October of 2004. That is really cool to watch.

There are "snowmobile" routes and the city would prefer you on the streets and not the berms, so you don't tear up the grass and nail the fire hydrants!. A good run, is down the middle of highway 2 to DVL. Plenty of "watering holes" to stop at and fill up both tanks on the way.

I saw them in the north - but the wierd thing is I saw purple and blue colors of northern lights directly above me, but all the changing green/red/blue colors were due north just above the horizon. I took pictures with my tripod...held the shutter open for 15 seconds.

especially since lightning pictures can be pretty badass. If you click on the link in my signature and look at the "shanghai" album, you can see some I snagged from my brother's apartment there.

Haha, yeah, we drove out the other night when that thunderstorm was passing. I took my camera w/ me, but much to our dissapointment, the lightning stopped lol as we drove. I left my camera taking 15 sec exposures (that's the longest shutter speed I can take shots at) for about 5 minutes, and then just gave up since the lightning was all gone by then, haha. I will try earlier next time a storm passes by. Summers are cool here w/ those thunderstorms. Too bad I didn't have a camera last summer, otherwise I would've gone shooting those thunderstorms. I especially enjoy time lapse vids of clouds, it's beautiful when you compile them.

I guess I take this kind of stuff about UND and ND a bit personnaly (ok here I truly would appologize, but you let people know and don't keep it in, otherwise really, I told you I love giving people ****, I love stirring things up as so do you, don't tell me you wouldn't want to insult my arse for a run hehe) as Im sure you would if it was your home state and town, and it is not so much the complaining, I get that, it's the thought process that being from Cali, or NYC or a foreign country makes you better (but it does )than other people. UND is offering a great oppurtunity and opens doors earlier in this career field than any other aero program, hands down. You would think there would be a bit more pride (agreed, but we pay, pride is for our own work, we succeed through college, they just don't hand us a diploma, they give us the opportunity to learn, and yes great facilities) and appreciation for those that laid that ground work for the current students.

College is about, making friends, drinking way too much beer (alcoholics, thats all that matters here, drinking, not the girls, the music, the atmosphere, the keg matters!) in relation to the distance to the nearest bathroom (drinking till puking I assume, a typical I have nothing better to do midwest culture), nailing dorm furniture (was never destructive for having fun, more creative, where is your respect to UND facilities, and workers that cleaned that up) to the ceiling, etc. You came to the school for two reasons, a good education and to have fun (yeah, didn't we all?), UND offers both (what fun? are you serious, where, name it), if you are willing to think outside the box (been thinking about ya box too much babe) and broaden your horizons. Sitting around pissing and moaning about snow, simplot, (looks like those damn foreginers again, and their demands, arghh) (find something original like one of the school colors being pink!) doesn't seem too fun to me, but riding the snocat (snowcat? arctic cat? polaris) trails up and down the I29 corridor, (name me one place that rents this stuff so I can put my money into this places economy and do that for fun) or ice fishing (don't have the fire directly on the ice!) etc does.
