That, my friend, is why we have every right to complain. I could say that if you don't like to hear my complaints, then don't read these forums. But, I wouldn't say that. Now... let me say that the autocross event last Saturday was just pure fun. Those kinds of things help make this place livable.

At the time I couldn't afford the visit. I barely scraped by $3,000 to get here (trust me, the UHaul plus car trailer was 90% of those fees). $700 would've probably been the amount to visit (airfare plus hotel) and I was not in the position to afford that. So, I relied on UND's marketing material to decide to come here.

The key word is marketing. Of course they aren't going to talk about the lack of things to do in Grand Forks and the stench of Simplot. It is marketing -- of course they are going to emphasize the positive aspects!

As for those bitching about ND. I'll admit this is one of the least favorite places I've lived in my life. I used to complain about it a lot too, but I've found it gets a lot better if you get yourself a good group of friends and find stuff to do. Yeah there are some big nerds here in the aviation program, but a good majority dont have the arrogance that I often see in this forum. A lot of the people who post here seem to think they're better than everybody else for some reason...but they're the ones who spend hours posting stupid s**t in this forum. Do you really expect UND's marketing to say "it gets freezing ass cold here in the winter. There's not a whole lot to do except drink and go to hockey games, so please bring a spare liver". Its a good school, and though sometimes it doesn't seem like it, time spent here is worth it. If you dont like it here, then go somewhere else. Some of you are complaining about the costs of moving...but dont tell me someone who lives in legacy, has some bigass LCD projector and drives a pretty decent car can't afford to save up for a while and relocate.

While a bit pricey for Grand Forks, Legacy is cheap compared to where I came from. $380 per month is what I pay for my share of the apartment. I would agree that is the going price for what many students pay for in an apartment/roommate situation off campus. The car isn't too much of a decent car, but thank you for calling it pretty decent I really like it and it's the nicest car I've ever owned and will probably ever own until I'm maybe around age 30-35.If you look at where I came from that will tell you why it was a bit harder to save up for the move. $3,000 is a lot of money, by ANY income. Add living in SoCal to the scenario and things change. My rent was $1300 in San Diego for a two-bedroom condo... and only part of that time I had a roommate to help split that cost down to $750 (my share). So I barely scraped by to save the $3,000. For me, saving that much money was a significant accomplishment. In the end, all I want to do is finish my last year in school here and head out to some other part of the country (Colorado, Arizona, or Texas would be cool)...or who knows, maybe I'll get a job back home. My brother offered his spare room to me in Sandy Eggo, so maybe I'll end up doing that.

Emu, No worries bud, these guys hate UND and ND so much they won't be instructing there. They all should have only a year or two left and, as they say in Cali, they be gone. I would be interested to see the pamphlet that promised ND and UND would be just like everyone's hometown, have everything they like to do, and more, and has perfect weather?? Basing your decision on where to go to school based on what a 5 dollar pamphlet says, shows serious lack of judgement and decision making skills, oh where oh where might someone need those...

****, the UND forums on JC has the #######t of people bitching about us complainers. Get the hell out and don't read it if it offends you. Doug put these forums up not so this board can be an advertising firm for UND. Who the ****'s paying us, or Doug for that matter, to advertise good stuff for UND? We give our input of the school. Don't like it? Don't read it. Get the **** out. It's cake.

Ok, GF may be boring, but like anything, it is what you make of it. Instead of waiting for people to respond to your complaints on JC try thinking of something to do. That would be more constructive than trying to think of comebacks or insults. Sorry guys (DJ and Angel) but this whole "competition" thing is getting lame. I'd much rather read funny stuff or interesting stuff even something aviation related once and a while :-O

I more the neutral type, agree theres nothng in GFK, I choose to come here, so I dont B1tch. I make the most of it meet a lot of great people a lot which are from this forum, or I we got them into this. I am involved in SAMA, eAA, APO whcih does community service projects arond GFK. Im taking 16 credits, and currently waiting for an alternate position as an RA.....I meet cool people from all over the country, world, state whatever....here at ND, cant complain about that. my philosophy is work hard on weekdays , party hard on weekends, and go home whenever you can and it shouldnt be too bad, though it can still be depressing. comments? arguments? critisizms? though its funny to talka bout this place and people somtimes :P

"Your worst nightmare..." "I am your farther..." and my personal favorite "Who the fu^&* are you!!?" edit On a serious note. I come across as an ass on here because of the attitudes, and I realize that is a contradiction in itself. I grew up in small town ND, went to both UND and NDSU, (turned down a full ride to ASU and ERAU). While ND is not the most glamorous place in the world, it is home to me, and about 600,000 other hard working, honest people. I spent 3 years at UND as a student, and 3 years as an instructor. I like to think I did my part to make UND Aero a good place to go to school and I'm fairly sure everyone of my students, stage checkeees, and such would say the same. But to come here, see a forum for just UND and think great some place to catch up with old students, friends, etc and all I see is whining and moaning about nothing, yup it irks me. Am I going to change these attitudes, nope, not in the least, life will straighten them out on it's own. It is one thing to not like where you are and mumble and grumble about, we have all been there done that, got the tee shirt. But to moan and groan so much that leads, instructors and student services people know you by name, thats something else. If it is so ungodly horrible, don't let the door hit you on the ass, on the way out. I cringe everytime I have to do a LAX or PDX trip. These people, to me, are snobs, could care less about you, do not do their jobs well, etc. BUT, I don't complain, I say hello, good day, thank you, good bye, etc, tip the van driver that was 20 minutes late picking us up, tip the maids that try to burst into the room at 1 in the afternoon while we are sleeping, on and on and on. If it were just some college kids blowing off steam, I can see that, but these guys making the most noise, are going to be professional pilots here fairly shortly and these kind of "entitlement" attitudes, distain for rules and authority, do not go away very quickly, not who I want to be sharing the sky with, or have controlling me in and out of EWR's airspace. I guess I take this kind of stuff about UND and ND a bit personnaly as Im sure you would if it was your home state and town, and it is not so much the complaining, I get that, it's the thought process that being from Cali, or NYC or a foreign country makes you better than other people. UND is offering a great oppurtunity and opens doors earlier in this career field than any other aero program, hands down. You would think there would be a bit more pride and appreciation for those that laid that ground work for the current students. College is about, making friends, drinking way too much beer in relation to the distance to the nearest bathroom, nailing dorm furniture to the ceiling, etc. You came to the school for two reasons, a good education and to have fun, UND offers both, if you are willing to think outside the box and broaden your horizons. Sitting around pissing and moaning about snow, simplot, (find something original like one of the school colors being pink!) doesn't seem too fun to me, but riding the snocat trails up and down the I29 corridor, or ice fishing (don't have the fire directly on the ice!) etc does. It is there, its not what the big cities offer, but it is there and it is every bit as fun, especially with a large group of people, 10 cases of Bud ice, 30 inner tubes and nothing but a Saturday afternoon to float away with...
