4 out of 4 cars did not start, a buddys car that has remote start every 2 hours and has a warm car came to help, after jumping the cars, only 2 out of 4 start and the rest sit. Fuel doesn't vaporize, starters are frozen, and clutch is frozen on one.. Now why am I in Grand Forks?

This is still warm compared to Jan 28th, 2004 when it got to -44 before windchill. Today we had -40 windchills, but the actual temperature was around -20.

My car absolutely did not want to start today. I cranked through the entire car battery and almost an entire 1500amp jump pack! It was cranking alright, but was acting like it had vapor lock or something. It was trying to start, but just wouldnt stay running. This is kinda odd because last year it started no problem at all when it was -36.

I'm curious as to what you do when your car does not start...do you just say "screw it" and leave the car there and decide not go somewhere until it warms up? Also - how much do block heaters typically run? |

I dunno why but my Honda always starts fine when it's that cold.... but boy you can just feel that SLUDGE of oil muck and metal to metal contact when it starts that cold. Cold starts are so hard on the engine.

I have a friend in West dorm and he said it's not possible to have a block heater due to the lack of power outlets? I'm just qurious since I'll be heading up in the fall with a Jeep Cherokee.

Put a lighter weight oil in there, get a good battery, and you're good to go really.
