| I have a wireless router in my room, and am having some trouble getting it to work with clean access. The thing is, it is plugged into the wall, and clean access is not identifying/recognizing it (apparently its MAC address) as a UND computer or whatever. So basically, I can set it up, pick up the signal, connect to it, but when I open up IE or Firefox a clean access page appears wanting me to download clean access/sign in. Of course, the computer already has it, but because the internet is running "through" the router - it is detecting the differing MAC address, thus not passing the security test. To be honest, I don't even know what a MAC address is -- and you guys may not either... I just got this term from the guy at ResNet, who was unwilling to tell me anything beyond, "You need to just mess around with it and maybe set up a spoof MAC address for the router so that clean access will accept it." I know that this can be done, because some other people have wireless routers set up. I just don't really know what needs to be done. Just figured I would take a shot in the dark, and see if any of you guys have an idea what to do. Or...I guess I could wander around the dorm refreshing the wireless networks until I get a really strong signal...knock on that persons door...and ask them how to do it! ![]()

| Howdy Erik. I used to work at ResNet and likely what you were told is that wireless routers in the residence halls are not officially supported by resnet. Here's the deal: cisco clean acess agent (CCA) need to authenticate once every 12 hours. So here's a way around it: plug your computer your ethernet jack, log into CCA, find your MAC address - write it down (start->run->cmd->ipconfig /all). Plug your wireless router into your ethernet jack, open your wiresless router configuration, clone the MAC address of the router to your computer MAC address you found before. Now it should work, for the next 12 hours at least. Repeat every 12 hours as necessary. When I quit resnet we were testing other wireless options. I think a wireless basestation (minus the routing part) will work with the current network, plugged straight into your ethernet port. They are also considering developing a wireless system in all the residence halls in the near future, and I did the wireless site survey for this setup. If they implement wireless as they have planned, I would imagine it will be troublesome - they don't seem to want to setup as many wireless access points as needed according to my findings during the site survey. Hope some of this helps. If you have any questions, post back or PM for more assistance.

| All you have to do is plug the ethernet cable from the wall into any of ports on the back except for the WAN port and then you have to log onto the router and turn off the the DCHP sever on the router other wise it will give out IP address to the dorm and resnet will call you. When you turn off the DCHP sever the school will then give out the IP address over the wireless so that each computer that uses the wireless will have to log on to there account using Cris clean agent. I had my wireless router up for the year without problems. |
