Default Grand Forks Survival Guide

I told Tom I've been thinking about making a free "Grand Forks Survival Guide" in PDF format for new aviation students to download. It'll be a great online book that new aviation students can use to learn about what Grand Forks has to offer for passing the time. I know it's not very much, but if you dig for it you can find it. The purpose of the e-book is for students to venture off and explore outside of campus.

Basically it'll have a few categories such as:

Recreational activities: Bike trails, cross-country ski trails (even the locals don't know about these), snowmobiling, ice fishing, camping, hiking (ie, Turtle River is a somewhat scenic place for the area - good for photography), kite-boarding, auto-crossing, frisbee golf, etc...

Restaurants: The good places to eat, all categorized

Points of interest: Scenic places, picnic places, historic points of interest, museums.

Bars/clubs:
Reviews on some good bars or other social locations

Student Perspectives: Write-ups from students - where they came from, how they adjusted living here...basically to comfort students who are "culture shocked" and bored out of their mind.

$100 Hamburger getaways: I.E., Rent a plane at GFK Flight Support or Crookston, fly to Fargo, go to Famous Daves for some good Southern-style BBQ.

That's all I can think of for now. I want it to be a collaberative (sp?) effort from Aviation students from all different backgrounds to capture a diverse audience (foreign or local, big city/small city). Maybe some of you guys/gals will want to write a review on an activity or place of interest.

What do you think? Kinda dorky or people would use it?

Actually, I do right now! But come a couple of weeks, I'll be too busy to even be posting on JetCareers.

Jason -- I think that is a pretty clever idea! Although I don't think I'm going to attend UND this coming fall I still think it's a good idea. I've went to Grand Forks this summer and had an interesting time trying to figure out exactly what kinds of things you could do in the town. With a "Survival" guide, I think it might be more helpful to a student at UND who is not familiar with the town/culture/etc. Good luck if you decide to do it!

I think this survival guide is an awesome idea. Hopefully it helps some of the aviation guys have close to as much fun as people across the coulee do.

LMAO! I'll make sure I include info on how to reserve a space in the aviation student plot.
