Yeah it's been really slow here. I'll be partying in San Francisco with my cousins. One of my cousins has an apartment off of Market St. I doubt I will get any sleep at all haha.

I tried to do the "bay tour" yesterday but when we got to the bay area you could barely see anything - too cloudy and foggy. Ended up heading back and landed at Nut Tree. That airport used to be a great fly-in place with a restaurant. Not anymore. Restaurant is no longer there and everything is run down. I used to fly in there with my dad all the time for lunch when I was a little kid. Stupid treehuggers here in California who hate GA aviation like to bring down those "rich golfing lawyers with the Bonanzas"!

Happy New Year everyone!! Hope everyone is enjoying their break. In another week it's back to the tundra The WX here has been a real pain in the ass...rain, rain, rain.

Jace, did you guys get a lot of rain down in SAC? I guess there is more rain on the way...

Yeah lots of rain. At KSAC winds were 160 @ 25 gusting to 40 knots! This is really wierd weather. It's never this stormy this time of year. When I went snowboarding at Alpine Meadows (6000 feet elevation I think) it was 38 degrees and freezing rain. The snow was packed hard with ice - not good, but I still had fun. It should be 15-20 degrees as a high up in Tahoe but it's just been so warm.

Oh I bet, can't wait to see the buffalo women again.

It sucks because coming from a large city where we actually have dance clubs (El Rocko is not a dance club by the way, for all you North Dakotans who think it is - surprise for you, it's not) I refuse to go out because they don't play decent music to dance to. It's usually a mixture of both country music with some hip-hop song that was cool 6 months ago for a week straight and not anymore HAHA

agreed. i dont bother going out in this town anymore because I cannot stand the music or the patrons.

no class at all.

i used to dj at the babylon but got so ****ing sick of idiots asking for "something i can dance to" (newsflash: its called DANCE MUSIC because normal humans can dance to it) and the owner was a total townie ****face that we (the dj's) all ended up walking out.

get me out of heeeere.

hopefully now that im doing my flying courses ill just study my ass off in my spare time.

Hey you used to dj at babylon??? I think you were in my ATC class Spring semester... I remember you telling me about that (assuming you are the same person).

But yeah seriously... perhaps if they played music you could actually dance too to burn calories there would be less buffalo sized women LOL.

yeeeep ya figured me out!

damn babylon, was definitely too good to be true for this town.

but yeah, if people did some dancing instead of stand-in-place-and-grind-hips-together maybe they would lose some weight?

i dunno. maybe i should ditch the dj'ing and open up a buffet restaurant.

I've never really been a fan of dance clubs, but I can only imagine the sad state of the ones in GF.

Well get the ##### out then. Seriously, about half of your posts are spent ripping on ND. I could think of a thousand reasons why I don't like a certain place, but if you don't like here, please leave. We won't miss you.

Amen. That goes for a lot of people on this board, it's no wonder none of you are getting laid!

This town is not nearly as bad as some of you make it out to be. I've grown up in cities, and coming to ND was a shell shock for about the first semester. I got over it though, and the last 4 years have been a great experience for me. If you go out and get involved in the community I think a lot of you might get a much different perspective of the people that live here and the area as a whole. They deserve a hell of a lot better rep than what you guys give them.

No...no it's not. I'm glad somebody finally said something, this board was becoming way too negative about UND and ND in general. Those of you that complain about it have made a choice to go here. I'd suggest you make the best of it instead of complaining all the time...or leave.

Hey, on a positive note the town is actually expanding. We just got a decent Chili's/TGI Friday's style restaurant: Boston's. They're also developing something large just south of Boston's and east of Target. I wonder what it's gonna be.

I don't go there anymore slick, I graduated and left probably before you even started, I've got hindsight on my side.

Boston's is terrible. The food is ok, but their kitchen sucks. It took us over 45 minutes to get food the 3 times I've been there and it wasnt even busy. I've got a friend who's a waiter there and the kitchen screws him over constantly for gettting tips. I suggest going there before the evening rush so that you'll get your food in 30 minutes instead.

As far as the city goes, I'm getting used to it. It really isnt all that bad. Its just laid out in the most asinine way I've ever seen a city laid out. I think the city planner's highest education must have been 3rd grade or something. There's stuff to do and good places to eat, you just have to look REAL hard.

Well I don't go to UND, but I went there this summer for an Aerospace Camp. I'd just like to say that prior to going there I had the idea of North Dakota being like the movie Fargo, where it's flat, cold, nothing to do and the people talk like they do in the movie. After going there in June, I can agree with the flat part, and I can take everyone's word that it is cold. I do however disagree with the nothing to do part. You might think that being in a city with a little over 51,000 people with all these "bad" restaurants and stores is boring. Well here is my point of view...I live in a town (village) in New Hampshire with 1,500 other people. I go to a High School with a little over 1,000 kids from NINE towns. Yes, we have ski mountains, but we don't have many restaurants/stores. The nearest Wal-Mart/Target is 50 minutes away. The nearest McDonalds is 35 minutes away. Sure, I could go to a real city like Boston, but that's about 1.7 hours away. I hope this sort of puts things in perspective when I say, I live in the sticks. So with that said, I think Grand Forks is pretty damn exciting compared to my town. Oh, and about the accent, I think it's pretty stretched in Fargo and just made to be a stereotype...it's not sooohh bad.

the absolute GEM of grand forks is THE PARROTS CAY!

i seriously love the place. not a chain restaurant. great selection of beers, imported and micro. great food. good price. good atmosphere and actually has some character. i reccommend spending as much time there as possible.

So you weren't the only one with the bad service? It took 55 minutes for me and two other friends and it was 3pm. BUT, the food was really good. I assumed that they were just understaffed that day and would try them again. Perhaps I'll give them one more try...and if it's late again I'll just go to another place. Maybe it'll take them a few months to get situated and improve their service...some places are just like that (not a good thing at all for your reputation though).
