Default Oh boy...

I'm pissed. I almost got run over by a car again.
I was biking back from Tugrul's apt when all of a sudden, I slipped on my bike and almost fell, but recovered w/ my foot. A car was tailgating me from behind and slammed the brakes making it skid sideways. The girls were scared as #### while I was PISSED. They don't keep their distance. I know it's not the smartest idea to be riding a road bike w/ completely treadless 23mm wide tires, but seriously guys, common sense still applies and you shouldn't be tailgating a car or bike in these conditions...

P.S.- WTF was I doing on the road, you ask? I was turning unto the Brannon parking lot. It's the only way to get to Brannon.

Nothing wrong with being on the road if there are no designated bike trails - in fact bikes should follow traffic and obey all rules like any car would. Funny thing is - I come from Bozeman, MT where there is a bike chained to every parking meter, lamp post and tree (usually an expensive bike that gets ridden a lot) - Drivers usually show respect and give plenty of room when passing but the town hardly has any designated trails. Come to Grand Forks and there are bike trails ALL OVER town but 85% the bikes are rusty old huffys and the motorists are clueless on how to deal with cyclers or give way and give respect. I guess I just find it strange that a bike minded town like Bozeman doesn't have much for trails yet Grand Forks has trails everywhere but its full of overweight people that never ride. (and clueless drivers when it comes to bikes) Weird. By the way some of us are starting a bike forum for Grand Forks - since there is a culture of us displaced riders that need to get on eachother and go riding! It was started by a fellow UND instructor Ben Jensen. Check us out! Its not been too active lately but the more the merrier.

Damn!!! Sorry to hear man, I guess people in Grand Forks are just plain old idiots. Good to see you come out of this one without a scratch though.

Driving here.. hehe.. well I have been biking the summer, and yes I love driving, so I know both aspects. They love tailgating, and don't comfortably know their car. Yes, people here don't know how to drive. They give their turn signal when they are turning, I CAN ALREADY SEE THAT! it was put there to warn ahead of time you are turning. Then they randomly hit their brakes, think they are the best drivers being that they grew up with ice and snow. The other day I saw a car full of girls slip into a curb in a turn. I went around, but I love it when everyone freaks out and hits their brakes, and we have a chain of cars into each other. They really need to get comfortable with their cars, know their limits, and not panic the way they do.

Angel, glad you are fine. Im sure you scared those girls so so so much! Hopefully they learned, but I doubt it.

No, MSU was great and the academic standards much higher than UND. Just decided flying planes was better than building them.. Just another in a long line of wrong choices

It was a friend next door in the dorms that got me hooked on flying and had friends at UND, he planted the seed and I blame him.
Used to be a cool old guy on the road from livingtson->mamoth that had a runway on his ranch, cool place to fly.
