Default Road Bikes

I decided to open this dorky thread for Angel. Road bikes suck. You get hit by cars when you are on them.

Can you autocross in a road bike?

1) Road bikes are cool as ####.
2) You might not have an engine if you sit on your sorry ass all day w/o exercising. I have an engine.
3) Photopilot's cool. He's a road biker. You're the one that owns like a million Kleins, right?
4) If you're skillful, yeah you can essentially "autocross". Wear your helmet, lol. But more fun is cyclocross.

Tugrul's gay. I got hit twice because of the "dontchaknow" drivers.
LOL the funniest part was when I called him after my second accident. I told him, "Tugrul come over here, I got hit by a car again." His response was, "AGAIN?!?!?!?!?!" He got to the scene faster than the cops did when I first called them. Ridiculous.

Close . . . I have one Klein. She's a killer aluminum/carbon composite roadie with (mostly) Dura-Ace.

Now, if Jace doesn't think that's cool or worthy of his attention, he should ride my Bianchi Pista. Nothing like a fixed-gear track bike to wake you up in the morning! (Notice the signature line in my posts . . . )

I take it you ride, too, Angel?

Actually, no... road bikes are cool... I was just playin' cuz it's my mission to make fun of Angel and his dorky bike interest haha totally kidding. I own a bike myself, but it's just a Trek 820 mountain bike. I made sure it was a heavier steel frame so that I could get more exercise per mile driven. Granted, the steel frame is not much heavier than the alum, but it was also quite a bit cheaper....plus it matched the color of my car

In fact...while I'm talking about my mountain bike, here it is:

Nice burnout marks in your garage there Jason. Just like my garage. There's a lip that sometimes catches my front tires(this is with my blazer) and instead of just rolling forward and backing up again, I just burn the back tires till the truck rolls in. Looking at your tread, and the marks, those arent yours are they?

Sorry for the hijack.

I need to get my a$$ on a bike again. I've got a GT outpost. My first mountain bike, I wore hell out. The guy at the bike shop said he'd never seen EVERY single bearing worn down so bad. Even the bearings in the handle bars!! lol I really really doubt I could do 18 miles(bike path back home) in 45 minutes like I used to do. Is that good for a mountain bike? I know my dad had that same path down to dang near 30 minutes on a road bike. I never got to try a road bike out on that path.

Im so out of shape as far as bike riding goes, its rediculous. Kinda depressing actually.

Where do you guys ride around here. I guess what I want to know is where are some dang hills. Oh yeah, there are none. Nevermind.

LOL yeah I did those but it was with my Dunlop Graspik snow tires. I did a burn out because my summer tires won't do it. If I try to burn out with those tires in the pic, it will make the car launch forward and make the front end hop. Could be because the clutch has 74,000 miles on it and slips a bit, but mainly because those tires grip so well. They won't even make any "uuuuuurrrrrrrrrrt" noises when screaming around a corner. They more-or-less sound like the go-cart tire "sssshhhhhh" sound when they're near their threshold.

I end up riding the bike trails, but after a while it gets really boring. There's only so much enjoyment you can get out of looking at sparsely planted trees not indiginous to ND and a manmade creek that looks like #####.

18 miles in 45 minutes = 24mph. That's very fast for a road bike. I'd say highly unlikely even if your mountain bike is on slicks. 24-25mph is what Professor Yearwood won w/ during the Hillsboro race this last Spring.
Your father: 18 miles in 30 minutes = 36mph. 36mph is around the world record for team time trial by Europros in the TDF. Those are special aerodynamic time trial machines. Highly unlikely... =)

But I just ride around anywhere. Usually, I like going to East Grand Forks and head in random directions. I've done highway 2 to the GFK AFB but that's very boring. I've gone down the country roads to the south but those are boring as hell too. I just stick to the "city".

Wow, yeah I didnt even check to see what speed that came down to. I did usually only to maintain 18-20mph. I have held 30 for awhile with a good tail wind. I need to check and see how long that path really is. I thought it was 18. With that speed its more likely 14 miles. The time that I said is right though. I was in really really good shape, as far as biking goes, before I started driving. I wouldnt be surprised if I averaged 24mph on a good day with or without wind.

Holy hell, all the way to the airforce base? I've thought about going just to the airport before, but figured I'd go nuts riding that long in a straight line being able to see how much farther I have to go. yuck

I don't know if you realize how incredibly difficult that would be . . . especially on a MTB!

Which one, the 18-20 or the 30. The 18-20 was about what I used to average. It was around more or less 18mph most of the time. I have seen my speedo average me out to 20mph a couple times.

With 40mph winds, hitting 30 and above a couple times isnt to hard. Riding back is out of the question though.

Well I'm sorry I use Km/h and on the cateye I had back home I would go 25km/h then I remember going down hill and hitting 45km/h and yes it was a mountain bike, then I tried harder to push it to go fast, and I'll tell you the handle bars almost took off as the stability just went and the thing oscillated in my hands. You couldn't really hit the brakes either. I got scared. Then one other time, I thought it would be awesome to go fast and up on a pebble hill... BAD IDEA.. I rammed right into it and almost flipped off. But yeah this is back with mountains back home. I know I don't have awesome bikes back home. Huffy and some other Italian peice. But I love bike riding.. I always never got the deal behind road bikes. After trying Angel's man there is such a difference. To put it, it's like a Corsica vs a BMW.. Damn right those road bikes are smooth.

Ok well we all should bike ride some time. Even though I'm not a dork as
Angel is, I enjoy biking.

And then for thrills I will run him over in my car!

Haha!

I've think downhill bike racing looks pretty badass. I want to try it real bad. Nothing really in Iowa tall enough to ride more than a half hour. Yes, there are hills in eastern Iowa. I'd probably fall down hard core though.

Hey,

I know I laugh at myself for all this but I will share this with you all. Back in the day of dorky childhood, I used to tie a small 12v battery to the back, a small car cassette player, two speakers in the back, two bicycle lights in the front and heck small christmas lights on the handle bar corners, red on left and green on right (aviation dorkyness). Then on top of all this turning signals and with all this weight climb up to the mountains, (talk about work out) and then race down. Yeah all of this on a bicycle. How embarrassing. But hey it was worth that back then.

I just had a nice ride out at turtle river the other day with some friends. My bike has been sitting neglected for FAR TOO LONG.... even though we live in barren ND there are times when its not so bad - turtle river has some really nice singletrack. It may not be sourdough canyon or the emrald lake trail from my hometown of Bozeman, MT (think MOUNTAINS) but it is singletrack. It was just good to get off my rear and get a workout outside again. The flight instructor diet has not been good to me lately. If only the flight instructor salary would buy me a road bike now!! (drools) My current setup is a 95 vintage Trek 7000, only original equip being the headset and seatpost. Currently full 2003 XT, SID XC fork and mavic ceramic rims.

Ahhh, the joys of a fork that REALLY works. I think about my first Rock Shox Indy elastomer peice of crap and cringe . . .
