| A while ago we discussed how there's a lack of authentic Mexican food here in Grand Forks... BUT... there's a new Mexican restaurant in East Grand Forks. It's called Paulo's Family Mexican Restaurant. It's on the south side of De Mers east of Cabela's. They've been open for 2 months and I don't know why I just found this out today. I just got back from lunch there. The beans taste just like my mother's... authentic with manteca and bacon fat (YUM). Chips and salsa are homemade...everything's homemade. They even have menudo! (it's cow tripe with pig's feet...very good breakfast meal I grew up eating). You guys have to go there and try it... spread the word!!! I hope they put Paradiso out of business. |

| oh and jsut like I used to drive to fargo to eat at the OG, I haven't eaten at one since I left ND.. Juliana's wasn't too bad, used to be one in that green building on the corner of 32nd and wash, but they closed it down and stayed open in downtown. |

| Senior Member | I like Paradiso for Birthdays, and the lovley statue they have at the entrey way with the boy molesting the little girl at the water fountain! Well and I love their service of ignoring you when you ask for more water or food, well I did my turn on putting a Canadian quarter in the food for a tip, enjoy! I know that was mean, especially on behalf of the Canadians for doing that, but man she kind of deserved it. Hey I'm up for going and checking out the new place. |

| I went to Paulo's with a couple of friends before the hockey game today. DANG! It was soooo good. 5000x better than Paradiso!!! They have everything there -- even mole, which you don't even see that much in California. Anyway, I was also suprised walking in there how nice the atmosphere was on the inside! Definately a cool place. I found it funny how the waiter kept telling us about all the stuff on the menu, reminding us that this is not typical "taco bell / Paradiso" food -- and that this was REAL food, and that it is GOOD food. I guess the typical midwesterner would be in shock...so he had to explain. Good job finding this place Jason!

I think the waiters are trying to educate the native naïve Grand Forks farmsteaders that "this is real Mexican food" because most people here are so closed off to the outside world and think that the whole world is like Grand Forks. "Oh jees, I hoooope I find a restaurant just like Paradisoooooh when I goooo to Mexico! Oh yah donchya know!" (Oh man, I'm sorry...I just love doing that and I apologize if it offends any Grand Forks natives...but please realize that your accent is so annoying!) LOL...Ok...anyway...glad you went there. I'm going there for lunch today and it will be the 3rd time this week. | |
