Default Rudest Stage Instructors

Yes, I know there are really nice ones, then ones that do their job really well, you fail you fail, no arguement about it, I agree my mistake was stupid, but then you get the really rude stage instructors.. yes.. and I do not tollerate them.. I tried to reach greg smith regarding one I had last year but ended up in a phone tag.

Yes this thread I hope list names of the rude ones that are the dreaded ones.

Well so far, the rudest one I know is Nick Berg.. Who tosses flight planning 'in' your face? And doesn't look for the content of your speech but the word for word definition.

Here is a question, you see a red light what is it?

Tell me thats a great stage question.. Well I asked if it was moving, he said yes, so I said most likley the left wing of the other aircraft.. apperntley that was not the answer.. (aircraft moving from the right to left) mmm lets think real, I can list many other postions where its not moving from right to left and still see that.

As students, I don't think we should tolerate rude instructors, and as instructors rude students. Infact as pilots we will encounter many cultures, and respect is the best tool that lies in our hands to build good relations.

The best stages I ever had were by leads. It is like a conversation, they correct you if you are wrong, and agree with you if you are correct, but in a very mature and friendly way.

As one lead said, "stage check is nothing but the sharing of our knowledge."

I think it's a reasonable question, some towers have red lights still too, if it's moving you're not headed right for it, or it's autokenesis, but those guy wires would be a ***** to smack into. Anyway, I'm babbling, a stage probably shouldn't hinge on that vague question but it could be the straw the broke the camels back you know...

I've not had RUDE stage pilots, but have had unreasonable stage pilots *coughKITKOgh* and *couGREGSMITHgh* but GSMI is actually a decent guy. I've also had GREAT stage pilots like rex ginder, S. fortiea (I can't spell his name) joe nybo, john rudolph, shawn mccauley, those are the ones that stand out.

a good stage is a stage I walk away from, passed, and feel that I've learned from it.

Where you here for the Lee Gorka days? I had him for my 323 stage. He asked me everything short of his stepmothers nickname.

I had a stage pilot for my Stage 26 (102) last year who failed me for NOT being able to draw the electrical schematic of the Piper Warrior. He was a new stage pilot who said right before we started that he's failed every one of his stage students. That was quite unprofessional of him but figured I'd do my best. I flipped out when he asked me to draw the electrical schematic. I was like "HUH?"

I complained quite a bit about the unfairness of the stage check but there was nothing anyone could do. I know he was spoken to about it because the second attempt at the oral he said "ok, explain to me how the magneto's work and how the battery and alternator work together" ...of course I was able to explain that, but not an electrical schematic!

I can't remember his name, but he's from Arizona... I'll have to look it up in my logbook and will post it later.

What a bastard. He deserves to get a vasectomy and get shot in the dick. Who the hell would ask such a question on the 102-26???

Greg Smith!? haha

I had my stage 46 today and my stage pilot had to be observed by him during my flight. He seemed like a descent guy, but then again I didnt get to witness my stage pilot's debrief so I dont know how he would be on a stage.

He SAYS his presence doesnt affect my stage. But when my stage pilot goes off on a tangent about droping 40 feet below a MDA for no more than 2 seconds due to gusty winds and turbulance, DURING the damn flight when trying to set up and get oriented for the next approach!!!! If Im not unsat, tell me later damnit! Sheesh.... I did pass though. I was pretty pissed off the entire flight though.

Whats this policy about letting us know if we've unsat a portion of the stage right away. Especially if its one of the first things. I havent unsat anything yet, but that would just throw me off for the entire flight if they told me that. I'd much rather know after the fact. Or during a time where I could at least settle down before the next task.

They are suppose to let you know if you unsat'd right away. Most examiner's will give you an option and ask you if you'd like to continue or head back to the airport.

He unstat'd my second 221 stage, I think it was one of his first stages I think, anyway he "didn't like" my choice of runways at crookston with perfect 90 degree winds and traffic approaching BOTH ends, I still give him #### about it now and again.
I did the oral with "lurch" (don't recall his real name) then the actual flight with smith. He's an alright guy otherwise.

you've already failed, no pressure, good time to knock out the rest of the stage.

Yeah! Continue the stage even if you've unsat. There's a lot less pressure and the stage pilot's are usually less strict if you mess something up that's minor after you've failed.

I used to do stages when i was back at UND and i would never ask such a thing. There is no need to have the electrical diagram memorized. For goodness sakes, I was allowed to use my electrical schematic on my Q200 initial Proficiency Check oral!

Agreed, it does get insane here, you have a schematic so you can use it as a reference, not so you can memorize it.

well, depends on how much he wants. On the SEMI I think it's reasonable to ask someone to draw the general overview of the busses, alternator, and battery.
