Default Barrel Rolls in the Warrior

Three 221 students on their solo cross-countries got caught doing barrel rolls in the Warrior today. All three came back at the same time and had broken attitude indicators. Their certificates may be revoked or suspended since they violated an FAR and limitations of the aircraft.

I heard this from an "unnamed" credible source (won't say who told me, since it's a possibility that that person is not supposed to reveal this information).

Did anyone else hear of this? I can't believe some idiots would actually do this.

I don't believe it. Not sure when they came back but I just got back from the airport and didn't hear a thing.

First, I wouldn't call it a barell roll because I know they don't know how to do them correctly. Second, AI's don't break after doing a barell roll. It takes many of these to wear it to the point of failure. So the chance of all three of these breaking is unrealistic. These instruments tumble all the time when doing unusual attitudes and they don't break.

I don't know if all three of them broke. Maybe just one was "stuck"...and barrel roll... I doubt a Warrior can even do one properly - it'd probably lose a lot of altitude upon reaching an inverted attitude. I'm not sure though...haven't done it myself.

Agree.....I think there's more to it than we're seeing here, whether the story has any truth or not.

Coming from someone with a good amount of acro experience, something doesn't hold water here....

Isn't it true that a student did it a couple years back too?

There was an instructor that got fired for doing clearing rolls in an Arrow. The student wasn't having any of that.

The instructor was doing snap rolls and yes, he was fired.

Jace, the warrior (or most other small planes) will do a roll. It just takes a long time and looks like crap.

About rolling, anyone can figure how to do a roll but barell rolls are different. They take a lot of practice to accomplish correctly so that's why I said they didn't do barell rolls. I'm sure they just rolled it if they did at all.

Nonetheless, I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if this happened.
