I think they are just starting to "phase in" the new glass panel Warriors. UND just recently got Sioux 44 - i don't even know if it is being used yet or if it is still in maintenance. But a few CFIs left the other day to fly to Florida and pick up another glass panel Warrior while dropping off one of the older ones.

Has anyone flown the Avidyne panels and the G1000 panels? If so, which do you prefer and why? I notice some differences and it looks like the Avidyne is a bit more cluttered... Just curious because I figured you ND guys get to play with all the toys, one of you might have flown with both ![]() Nice planes, but I'm still trying to figure out how to teach partial panel on these newfangled glass contraptions |

For now it will only be for the 415 course. I think maybe a couple 222's will get to try it, but only a select few. |

It would be cool if they got a couple glass Seminoles, but didnt the retro-fit they tried last summer not work or something? |

Thanks [/ QUOTE ] Sorry. 222 is the main instrument portion of our commercial pilot course. 415 is the CFII course. There are two main reasons UND will limit which students get to fly the new glass Warriors: Number of planes we will get with new cockpit(7), and what our FAA approved TCO (training course outline) calls for. So for sure our CFII's will get it, and maybe the 222's will. I think we have at least 45-50 Warriors on site in GFK. So it isn't possible to always get a glass cockpit so we have to limit it. |

I went to the Fargo Airsho today, and sure enough two UND planes were there. N444ND was there, and I got to see the Avidyne System in there. It looked pretty sweet.

[/ QUOTE ] blue angels were pretty freakin sweet eh? I haven't had a chance to play with the avidyne ones yet, but for whatever reason we have a G1000 trainer in simland that I've been able to tinker with and its a really sweet setup. I really dont think that using a glass cockpit for initial (both PPL and IFR) training is a good idea at all. It took me quite a while, tinkering around on the g1000 to feel pretty comfortable with it. Its hard enough learning how to shoot a GPS approach, let along learn a panel that has a bigger operating handbook than the rest of the plane, when you first start. That's why I think it would have been ideal to get them in the seminoles because you already have a somewhat solid instrument base (though a little rusty from the time off) so you can spend time learning the panel correctly. |

Yeah, they were great. Were you there w/ anyone else, by any chance? I spotted a couple of UNDers around the airshow. edit: Oh yeah, and I kinda agree w/ you on that, because most people (including me) don't know how to make FULL use of the GPS, much less of a glass cockpit. But who knows, right? =) |

You might know him from IPA. Didn't see you around. ONly thing I didn't like about the airshow was that I forgot to put sun block on my legs because normally I wear pants instead of shorts. The rest of me is fine, but my legs are freakin killing me. Definately gonna go back to the airshow if I'm around next year, but hopefully I wont be. |
