Auto-x'ing is a larger city thing to do, but it's coming to Grand Forks (I'm shocked) on Saturday July 9th. I used to do it all the time in San Diego...anyone else done it before? It's a lot of fun and if you have a decent-handling car along with a passion for racing, you should come out and race. Be prepared to lose about 1cm of tread off your tires ![]() Here's the information: http://www.sccabadlands.org/solo2/ See you there... Oh also, the Fargo Air Show is going on this weekend. I'm going on Sunday at around 10am'ish, so maybe I'll see one of you there. |

Yeah, I autocross with my dad here in San Diego... we do it with PCASD, in fact there's one this Sunday at Qualcomm. We race a 993 and a 944spec. Did you cross with BMW or SCCA?

[/ QUOTE ] Yup, did it at Qualcomm with BMWCCA and SCCA. I miss those days. Are you coming to UND or just stopping by this part of the forum? When I move back I'm gonna buy a 1st-gen Mazda Miata and turn it into a track car - Miatas probably have the highest auto-x presence over any other car. |

Lot's of people were out there - about 50 cars. Most were Suby WRX's, Civics, BMW M3's, Miata's, and Mustangs. My car and everyone else's didn't perform so well because of the heat and humidity. Had a great time, but the course was really slow and short. Most autocross tracks allow you to get up to 60MPH. I think the fastest I got up to was 45MPH. I went out of control on the first run because came in too fast and I accelerated too early out of the apex, so I understeered and knocked two cones over (2 seconed penalty for each cone) along with a long streak of rubber laid down on the pavement. Can't wait for the next event. Here's a video I made...in-car footage: http://www.jasonevart.com/autox/autocross.wmv Pics: |

Interesting video, Jace! I didn't realize it took place at the Alerus parking lot. Looks like fun, man. Anyone else doing it, in there, that you knew from UND? |

Awesome video, Jason... looked like a lot of fun. My full time car is an '04 WRX, which I autocrossed here in SD back in December... but I mainly just autocross my dad's 944spec. I don't go to UND, i just stumbled upon this thread. I have one year left at a private college in the SF bay area, then I'll be back in San Diego full time, flying and building time. |

Yeah, why would anyone want to sponsor and build a huge stadium if nothing goes on in this town? The stadium must hold at least 200,000 people and here we are in a town of 50,000? I heard of the Alerus possibly having to shutdown because they can't get any cool bands to come here and generate enough $$$. But I heard Cher came to Alerus a few years back - I was shocked first time I heard that. I bet 5 people attended and she never came back. |

So either an '02/'03 WRX or a 1997-1999 E36 M3. Then when I move back to Cali I'll get a used Miata for the track...hopefuly find a salvaged one for real cheap. Which college in the bay area are you going to? |

[ QUOTE ] I wonder if I can auto cross my mercedes benz 2004 CLk 320??? [/ QUOTE ] Sure, you can autocross anything. The CLK320 probably be in the G Stock class. The only automobile not allowed are specific SUV's and trucks, such as the Suzuki Samurai and other SUV's prone to tipping over. If you autocrossed a truck, chances are you will be last place ![]() Common auto-x cars are: Mazda Miata BMW's (all models) Porsche 911's/944's/914's Honda CRX Datsuns 510's (the RWD cars from the early 70's) |

[ QUOTE ] Which college in the bay area are you going to? [/ QUOTE ] I go to Saint Mary's College in a small town called Moraga... it's in the east bay, about 15 minutes from Berkeley. I have a friend who bought a '97 E36 M3 a couple of years back, and he's already trying to get rid of it -- too expensive to maintain, and it seems like something is always wrong with it... personally, I'd spring for the newer (and cheaper) '02 / '03 WRX... I have had no problems with mine, and the only time it's ever in the shop is for an oil change. |

Man oh man, thats one of the first cool things I've seen going on in Grand Forks. They used to shut down the one of the airports where I live and do it there. Mini's own all on the short autocross courses(ie smaller parking lots). I'd love to do that except for the fact that the car I drive to school(the other car I drive isnt reliable enough, or so my dad says, to drive all the way up there) a 91 oldsmobile cutlass ciarra a.k.a typical stereotype grandma car. I dont like that near as much as I like drifting. You all should know what that is. You guys let me know when they bring that up there. And no, I dont own an all to common nissan 240. I have a celica supra. Here's what I like to do. Drifting- sort of. This is all e-brake stuff which requires no skill at all. But its still a good funny video because of the car I use. Seriously who expects to see this in a car like this. Usually I would do this in the snow, but I was buying new tires so I thought what the hell, might as well use 'em up. |

[/ QUOTE ] OMG that is such a hilarious video!!! I love doing eBrake tricks in my car during the winter. One time I almost got in trouble with the police in the Lowe's parking lot for doing several 360's in the ice/snow. What you do is pull the eBrake, then when the car is 270 degrees back around, you rev up the engine, dump the clutch to swing it towards 360 degrees and repeat! |

Yeah, good fun happens in the snow. I dont like just screwing around out in the open though. I like sliding around things like poles and curbs or parallel 2 or more slides(s-turns). Hard to do parallel drifts in a FWD car though. I hate FWD. Rear or awd is way more fun. Not a good idea to do this crap around other cars though. Like I saw when one of my friends tried to slide his truck from stanford onto university. "BAM!!!!" ![]() |
