Default Stage Check Process

Okay... so here's the deal. I turned in my records for my Private Pilot certificate and they came back saying I need .1 hours on the hobbs SOLO time. Well, I am scheduled to go do a landing or two tomorrow morning (may do 4 or 5 for fun) to take care of this requirement. Apparenty the TCO was changed and all flight instructor's last semester were informed of the change - my flight instructor forgot about it (I'm not blaming him though).

So here's my question. If my records clear on Monday to be put into the stage check process, assuming I can get a stage pilot to do the oral on Tuesday and flight on Wednesday, what are the chances of them cutting the normal 2-week turn-around time for temporary certificates into 2-days??? My whole entire family is flying in from California and want to take them down to Fargo in the Cadet from GFK Flight Support. I already know I can get them to do the checkout this coming Saturday (assuming I have my Private certificate by then!)

If I was at a part 61 school...I'd have it in my possession 5 minutes after the flight! But if I finished the Stage 30 last December instead of playing around in San Diego for a month, I would've had this done by now...*SIGH*

It's that time of the semester again, where everyone is on their stage check. You'll be lucky if you'll get a stage pilot by Tuesday. The waiting list is pretty long, and if you do get a pilot by Tuesday doesn't mean he/she will be available to do the stage right away. Get your temporary certificate ini 2 days??? Hell, you'll probably won't even get it in 2 weeks. I remember that mine took forever

Anyway, I didn't mean to discourage you. I'm assuming your parents are coming up for Parent's Weekend? I don't know if it is already to late to sign-up to take your family up flying on Parent's Weekend? An instructor would have to go with you. Don't know how long your parent's will be in town, but you could probably have your instructor personal use a plane if the availability is good, and go up with him and your parent's and just pay him the money after the flight. It would be a lot cheaper than GFK Flight Support, that's for sure

Good Luck!

Only dumb instructors would do this, because it is grounds for termination. You know that UND is a business first and scamming the school out money tends to piss off the bean counters.

As for Jace getting his temp, ha, . 2 days, like UND Flyer said, 2 weeks at the earliest.

My CFII student received his a couple days after, but he finished when there weren't many Final Cert records going through. Now is a different story. Sorry to hear about your dilema.

Go buy a lotto ticket because you have a better chance of winning that than getting records to do a temp in 2 days.

The waiting list is quite long, and fewer people do 30's than 26's, so i wouldn't be optimistic about getting a stage pilot (who has that much open time) that quickly.

Parent's weekend is your best bet.

It may be possible, my instructor once took me and my brother up PD when he was in town. I would make sure though to check with Leo and other high ups and be very certain to get a big wheel to ok it though before i even tried something like that.

Well, I did my solo .1 Hobbs time on Saturday - I ended up with 1.0 because I went out to the practice area to practice steep turns, stalls, slow flight, and ground reference manuevers. I figured if I was already in the plane, might as well do get practice in the things that I'm going to do in the checkride by myself.

I am thinking I will have to do the oral and checkride after the time my parents are here. My whole family will be in town from Friday through Monday for my 24th birthday and I will not be touching any FAR/AIM or any other aviation books while they are here. I hardly get to see them. It looks like the 26th or 27th would be my best bet to do the oral/checkride.
