I am assuming that UND supplies headsets for the students. What type of headsets are they? Are they junk? Do students typically use their own headsets? If so, is there a certain headset that someone can recommend to me? I know that you should really try them on and check them out, but I am just curious if there is a certain headset or brand that everybody likes/uses that is superior to the others. Is it better to get a standard/functional one, or is it just better to fork out the money and get a good quality one? What do you guys think of the noise cancelling ones?

Well.... UND does have a store at the airport where you can buy headsets, but they're a lot more expensive there than buying them elsewhere. I bought the Lightspeed 20XLc headsets. I really like the ANR (noise cancelling), and can't see how you could possibly fly without it. The headsets I've seen at the airport bookstore are some AVComms, and some David Clarks—I believe the 13.4s... |

[/ QUOTE ] UND doesn't supply headsets to students. I would go to a local FBO and try some different headsets on and find which ones feel the best to you. I mean you're gonna be wearing the headset for years to come, might as well find one that is comfortable. This is what I did and I'm glad I did so. I almost bought some DC's on the internet, but went to and FBO, tried them on and they felt like a vise on my head. I bought a Lightspeed Twenty 3G and love the ANR. Well worth the moeny, IMHO. |

They used to have three pairs of headsets per plane back in the day. They learned their lesson when people started jacking them though.

Do NOT go to UND's supply store. And try to avoid having to purchase your supplies there at all costs. They are way over priced. Just go over to GFK Flight Support and get 10% off if you show them your UND Badge... that goes for David Clark Headseats which I think are only $280 as opposed to $295 elsewere. Or just go to Sporty's or Marv Golden and purchase your headset through them.

Go on Ebay and get one! I got a brand new headset with a flight bag for around $200-$250.

if you get a passive get a DC. you can pick up a 10-80 or 10-40 on ebay for around 100 dollars. spend 20 bucks for undercut gel ear seals and its pretty much the same as a 10-13.4 for way cheaper. |
