most UND aircraft are 5 years new or fewer, so yes, they're new. most have lots of hours on them, but the mx department here is probably the best of its type in the world. the instructors are getting hired. so many instructors are getting hired that it's actually giving the school some real problems because there aren't a lot of folks around who have MEI and who are qualified to teach CFI initial.

grand forks blows, there's no two bones about it. it's what you make of it.....if we can survive here for the better part of a decade, you can too. the school itself isn't for everyone. i wish i'd have known 5 years ago what i know now about aviation in general, as well as about UND. basically it depends what you want to do. do you want to spend 2 years instructing and go straight to a regional, or do you have another goal in mind?

UND life is ok. Planes are pretty new and the mx is some of the best. UND CFI's get hired with Piedmont, ExpressJet, Mesaba, Horizon, American Eagle, etc.

Basically, you get what you put into it

Want to express more on what you mean there. Oh, and for those of you know who know I've been thinking, I'm going to be transfering to UND this spring semester. Will be visiting before or after thanksgiving break. Don't know if I want to go through half the summer or full summer or no summer to try to get done as quick as I can but I need to get through the spring semester first.

Like others have said, aircraft are new and the mx is great. I am satisfied with my flight training thus far (I'm currently taking AVIT 221). Tons of flight instructors got hired between last spring semester and this fall (if I'm not mistaken, something like 100 of them).

UND life is alright. I think the best part about going here is you become surrounded with other people who share your same interest (aviation). It's a great enviroment to be a part of. There's tons of clubs to join and stuff. On the weekends you can usually find something to do or a party to go to. Hockey is pretty big here. The selection of girls isnt too bad. Grand Forks isn't the most happening place around, but you can usually find something to do. All and all its a good place to go to school.

sure, no problem. when i first came here, i had on some blinders. airlines or bust! only piecemont and other regionals were where i wanted to go. now there's only one regional i'd consider, and i'm in no real hurry to get to the airlines. in fact, i want to work some crappy jobs flying some crappy planes in some crappy weather to earn my dues. i don't want to be one of the american eagle 500/50 know-it-alls. the regionals can wait....there's fun to be had while i'm young and fairly uninhibited, and it's not in the right seat of an RJ at FL310. maybe some day.

if you want airlines, and you want them fast, i don't think yo ucould beat UND with a stick. this place produces.

Yup, I am VERY satisfied with UND.
The only bad part is that there is no scenery to look at.
Planes are awesome. Maintenance is awesome.
The kids here are pretty cool—even some aviation kids.
Umm....hmm...life is ok here. It could be worse. You definitely end up getting used to it.
Everyone I've asked around here is quite satisfied with the overall school so....yeah that.

And ditto on Grant's (roundout) reply.

In short, you just gotta come here. You'll like it once you get started.

Brutusji: Glad you're more confident. You'll be happy you chose to come.

there's actually a good amount of VFR here, especially if you stay for the summers. there's also plenty of days where it's solid IFR, but it's hard to get actual because it's so cold here that the freezing level is usually at the surface. even today it was 3000' ceilings but it was too cold to fly it.
