[IMG] lruppert, you are, of course, free to invent your own new terms, however, the more broadly accepted term is "SJS" for shiny jet syndrome. Since I invented this term (well, more like adapted it from Hot Shots!, remember Topper's case of PCS? Paternal Conflict Syndrome?) I have a vested interest in seeing it used properly.

SJS was originally used to describe the actions of otherwise normal, level-headed pilots at a certain large regional who chose to fly a larger aircraft for the same pay (in fact, since it is a faster aircraft, you get paid less to fly between the same city pairs). After in-depth research and study, I found that these individuals were almost universally plagued with SJS. (It turns out the others were intially mistakenly labelled as "normal" and "level-headed")

Now, there is no copyright protection on the phrase, so please feel free to use it as you see fit. Thank you [IMG] [IMG]

Was never a regional FO...... [IMG]

I wouldn't sweat it. I rather be dropping bombs on terrorists, flying mach 2 on a $50 million dollar plane with the best air force in the world, treated like a king and have the hottest co-workers than flying regionals, but I'm too old, so I'll go for the next best thing, commercial pilot. Here's my advice: Whenever you learn a new concept, think of how you would teach it to someone else. It will help you learn (because you have to really understand something to teach it) and you'll start thinking like an instructor from day 1.

Very good idea and advice, thanks!

    I don't even bother anymore....

I've tried countless times to explain why sh*t like this hurts everyone. It seems that every other pilot I run into around school as SNJ syndrome. They're impossible to talk to.

They have horse blinders on, but they're not racing to win. They're racing to the bottom. They'll walk over brothers just to fly something other than a 172.

    Sad really

SNJ syndrome...thats funny. I think almost everyone has it outside of the aviation world especially nowadays and in the corporate world. People will leave what they are doing for better pay and the window office. Yeah, it is sad, but heck I dont like it that my wife makes quadruple more money than I do, and it upsets me sometimes when I ask her for help. I dont think I will ever make more money than she will, but I want to make a decent amount of money for a better QOL especially doing someting I love. Yeh, I know it sounds nice to have a richer wife, but I guess its a male pride thing. Oh no, I wont walk over my brothers to advance my career or would I let anyone walk over me, it's just bad karma. What goes around comes around.

Let's see, I went to an FBO in Long Beach, CA for my PVT and went to ATP for the rest of my ratings and cert's

    Intro Flight 11/02 0/0 hours
    Pvt License 8/03 70/0 hours
    CFI 12/03 210/120 hours
    King Air PIC 7/05 800/200

hmmm... took me about 2.5 years

I trained for my private pilot like many... once a week.... and once I received my CFI certificates, I didnt work for a couple months, and when I did, it was VERY slow.... I was 600/100 qualified, but then I got a lucky break and was offered a job to fly a King Air 90... having a blast now flying all over the US and Caribbean
