Someone just sent this to me.

Ok...so they can't join an alliance because they're "Jews". I see. Anyone know what he's talking about?

Bizarre. Is he saying they won't join an alliance because it's against Jewish beliefs? Or does he feel an alliance won't accept specifically because they're Jewish?

Strange thing to say either way.

Maybe he is saying that alliances do not want to deal with the security risks of dealing with an Israeli airline?

I wonder what the translation actually was.

Yep, I'm thinking it must have just been poorly translated. Or maybe literally translated but not in a way that conveys what he was trying to get across. On some other aviation sites I frequent, some Jewish members are accusing him of trying to re-enforce stereotypes, but I can't imagine a CEO of such a large and high profile company making an incompetent comment like that.

Does the thread title for anyone else remind them of Old McDonald?

Old man Shkedi had some planes,
    El Al CEOOOOHHH!
And on each plane there was a mensch,
    El Al CEOOOOHHH!
With a "feh! feh!" here and a "plotz! plotz!" there,
Here a "feh!," there a "plotz!," everywhere some "plotz!"
Old man Shkedi had some planes,
    El Al CEOOOOHHH!

Why is it odd? Being part of an airline alliance is a big deal. El AL has tried had has been told no thank you. Now why do you think that is the case.

Having been to Tel Aviv a lot and having rode El Al and dealt with security in and out of there. My company hires a guide to take you through security and you still have to show up four hours before your flight. I will say that the women in Tel Aviv ooh my my!!!
