Yea, that seems a little overly cautious. I took a stage check with 33kts.

The quoted cost for commercial aviation (PPL, IR, CFI, CFII, commercial and multi) is about $61k now, just for the flight costs. There is also tuition and room and board - about $17k per year out of state. I will be eating Ramen for the next 25 years.

Ok, so im going to save you 6k a year right now. Once you have been in school for 2 semester or 1 year, go get a ND drivers license. If you have a car, go register it there. Then go to the registrars office or business office and tell them you are a resident and fill out the paperwork for instate tuition. You just saved 3 thousand a semester. Your welcome.

I got the ND driver's license as soon as I got here so next fall I will be able to get in state tuition.

No joke. The $10 I spent on the ND license saved me thousands over the years. I'd rank it up there as the best $10 I ever spent.

Have to concur with everyone else here that flying over the summer is a wise choice. Depending on where you are in the progression, you can knock out 2 flight courses in 12 weeks, you stay proficient because you do an activity every weekday, and training generally moves a lot quicker with a limited class load since you're able to sync with your instructor's schedule a lot better.

I've been instructing here just over a year now, so I'm not quite as seasoned as ScoutFlyer or some of the other guys, but feel free to drop me a PM if you have any questions or concerns about the program. I came from a Part 61 PPL as well, so I can understand your frustration with the 112 course. It may seem like a bit of a chore, but use it as an opportunity to push yourself to really master the airplane and the maneuvers and you'll be in great shape come 221.
