Kind of looks like the negative police have showed up. Don't mind the ones around here that are more glass half empty folks around here. I've been reading the comments around this part of the forum over the past couple of months myself. I do not attend UND, but I get the impression that there's some that do/did go there who didn't quite show up with the right attitude.

The quality of education? Did you try Riddle, Middle Tennessee, or Purdue? or just UND?

I think that history shows the quality of education at UND.

Yup! Winter is freaking cold! Super plus extra cold.

Just like the last winter, it kept snowing, kept piling up.

Now many people can endure the winter.

I believe it is down to 7 flight lessons now. The ground school is a good review and you will truly know how to use a E6B, do W&B and XC procedures. I know a few people coming from part 61 who were never really thoroughly taught any of these items.

    Indeed. Welcome!

Having just completed my commerical multi checkride at UND, I love what this program has offered me. I feel that I have a very thorough and quality education in aviation from my flight training experience at UND.

I love going to UND and glad I choose this school. I have made some really great friends here and have had some fun times. If you sit in your room all day on the internet, ya it's gonna suck. Join clubs at the school go out and have fun. Consider joining a frat if that is your thing. I have great memories and friends that I met here and those friends and memories will last me a lifetime.

I've had a great experience at UND. If you want to have fun you have to be social. Join student clubs, be active and participate in Residence Halls events (dorms), go to hockey games, make friends!

If you are concerned about having a versatile degree you can always just double major or do aviation management. With aviation management you earn your commercial, multi and instrument plus you have a business degree from the College of Business at UND. I've compared doing my training at UND vs a FBO

    and

    In regards to flight costs:
Yes it would be cheaper if you JUST went to an FBO but you don't walkout of a FBO with a college degree. You would probably be attending a college anyway while training at another FBO so when you add those two costs together the price is damn close to getting a degree at UND + Flying at UND. You can get instate tuition at UND after living in North Dakota for ONE year which is how costs are near the same as going to another College and flying at a FBO. Getting instate at UND is pretty easy you just have to prove you have lived here for a year. I do believe the dorms do count but you also have to be here over the summer or somehow maintain a residence in North Dakota (sublease from someone) and go on a couple month vacation to another state.

From my experience from having done Part 61 flying and also Part 141 at UND, the quality of instruction I have received at UND was far greater than at the Part 61 school.

That's not that bad at all then. 7 lessons is just about right to initially figure out how proficient you are and it gives you enough time to figure out standard taxi routes, departure procedures, practice areas, and all of our other local procedures.

One more thing: Get hockey season tickets. This will most likely be the last season we'll be known as the Fighting Sioux. It's gonna be a good one.

:yeahthat:I really don't see what the big deal is about 7 lessons. I would rather spend 7 lessons getting to know the airplane. G1000s can be a big learning curve. I can only imagine the trouble someone would have going from a steam C172 right into a G1000 not knowing the area/procedures or polices and then on top of that trying to learn instrument stuff. You would probably end up having to review lessons and end up doing those extra 7 flights anyway.

Yes! Hockey games are pretty fun. While I'm not like some of the crazy fans that will go camp outside for a day when it's cold enough to snow to just get good seats, I do enjoy going to the games with my friends a lot.

Did you guys see that Grand Forks is listed as number 97 in the top small cities to live in?

I'm still having a little trouble with the Avidyne in the Seminole! And that's like 3 million times simpler than the G1000! I went from steam C172 to steam DA-20 to steam Warrior to G1000 C172 to Avidyne/steam Seminole.

I'm really hoping I will be able to go to UND, the only problem is that i only have 26 months left on my GI bill. they are waiting on one last transcript and I will see what will transfer. Most of the schools that are able to take the new GI bill only offer associates degrees. I love hockey but i'm a Gopher fan.

You gonna make it make to GFK at all this summer or in the Fall?

NOTTTTTTT! Though it's better than being a Gopher or a Badger fan. Real intimidating creatures right there.

Personally, I wouldn't base my judgment on the quality of a University based on one Professor. There are bad eggs at every University.
