Well, really, it's a midwestern word used to describe any kind of casserole meal thing. Tater-tot hotdish is pretty good. Cooked hamburger, toss on some cream of chicken soup, throw in some corn, and bake with tatertots on top. Yum!

That thing you describe above sounds disgusting. All it's missing is Lutefisk.

    Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. ;)

(Then again, when I was little, my dad used to make "Shephard's Pie," which is just ground beef, corn, cream of mushroom soup, and with dumplings on top. I've always like foods tossed together as long as they don't get crazy.)

they took that photo on the same day as they took the photos for the UND/aviation promotional materials. beautiful shots of campus not covered in snow/ice, etc

I love how not one photo in the UND Aerospace marketing material shows snow/ice.

Photography can do wonders to make a place look beautiful... just ask MrLeisure about the photo I showed him of the night shot of the Grand Forks courthouse in the background ;) that was hilarious...

I can't explain the blue sky but I think they fertilize with hotdish to get the green grass.

Haha, see I don't think it's strictly a midwest thing as it is a northern midwest thing(if you guys even notice a difference). What I call a "hotdish" is a hot-dish. Meaning something that has been cooked. Mainly something that's been cooked to serve a lot of people. That could be anything. Not specifically this crazy cassarole stuff you guys are describing. I've had the tator-tot thing a few times. It's pretty good if it's cooked correctly with the right ingredients.

Do you think Skramstad resembles a T-rex with those short little arms pressed against his chest while he speaks?
