    Great pics!

The BA A318 at the terminal is the one from London City Airport. It makes a fuel stop in Shannon for fuel before coming to New York. I believe the trip to LCY from JFK is done non-stop. The aircraft is in an all business configuration.

    Is that a tail wheel?

I've never really paid much attention to the Concorde before.

    "Kinda"

The Concorde has a wheel back there because of the high possibility of a high AOA during rotation.

Many jets have a "tail skid" to protect the aircraft during a rotation gone wrong. It's one of those things that you absolutely must check when you accept the aircraft else you're going to have some explaining to do if the next crew reports it.

Too bad Richard Branson didn't get a chance to operate Concorde when BA was done with them. Apparently he offered the British Government the same amount of money that BA paid for them: one pound.

Anyone have any idea what the Vref is on a one of these. I am curious because the things are damn fast, but seem to have a ton of wing.

I know they studdied it but, I am surprised that they still haven't made a more fuel efficient replacement (if that is even possible).

You know as much as I wished we had something like it, I'm not surprised at all that we don't. I feel like we've plateaued. We had men flying on rockets to the moon in the 60s and 70s, and we had supersonic passenger aircraft in the 80s and 90s, but now we have no space program here in the states, and everything is "10years down the road". I feel like we're going backwards, not forwards with a lot of things. I honestly think it's pretty sad that we cannot come up with something like the Concorde using modern technology. It sucks too because Concorde is probably my favorite airplane of all time.

With all the money invested in wars and what not , there is no room for such programs .

Great pics! Brings back memories of my visit to the cockpit of an Air France one when my uncle was the station manager for Avianca at JFK . . . nothing better than being offered a first-class "le jus d'orange" by a sexy French stewardess and zippin' it while getting a tour of the plane . . . wish I could have actually flown in one though!
