Situation in Brazil

BH is full of N registred aircrafts, they have one of the biggest GA of Brazil, at the executive airport (in the center of the city) there is like 40 King Airs and lots of Citations. In the SBJF (about half away from BH and RJ) they have a falcon 2000 with N reg, they are looking for an FO, 1500TT....let me know when you get to Minas I fly a lot between RJ and BH.

Btw I made a dictionary English for Aviation, it has all the translations in portuguese, I will be selling it across Brazil soon and I'm already working on a Voice book.

if you wanna learn portuguese fast and cheap go to a Kumon school, I got portuguese down in 3 months (I speak italian and spanish which are similar, that helps).

I have just show my wife some of the posts from this sub. She is quite pleased with the idea of me flying and perhaps teaching english in Brazil. Where are you based? Rio I tinhk? We might get there as well, not sure but have a place to stay there and hey would love a cold Skoll or Brama, and thanks about the Porto school info. I think if I could just afford to stay there 3 months or so, I wuold get my speaking to be passable. I have an understanding now and can read a bit, perhaps a 3 year old level, lol

I am not interested in airlines etc, but would be very interested in corporate stuff. Even CFI might work who knows, anyway you guys opened my mind and really pleased my wife.. She does not like the cold and snow here! She wanted to see snow, but the novelty wore off when the temp went to -10. And to be honest, I am getting tired of winters too.

@BCTAv8r yes, sorry I didn't had the time to answer you, my gf forgot our Oi 3G stick back in Europe, we got it shipped here but it's blocked at the customs, we have to pay a tax but we haven't figure out out to do it yet. I was in Minas the whole time since I'm back in Brazil,not much internet there. Other then that things are going well, I made some contacts here, some guy is interested in operating a brand new Baron with N reg. out of Rio...will see.

Brazil is a lot different than how most peoples think it is, it's not only Samba, Beaches, nice girls, caipirinha and lots of poverty, at least in the center/south east it's pretty advanced (as much as the USA), especially Minas, it is a really rich state if you go to Juiz de Fora http://www.flickr.com/photos/45112506@N08/sets/72157623104808013/ you will not see a single piece of trash on the ground all the streets are nicely paved and the colonial houses in pristine shape, quality of life is really good. the climate is really nice there, similar to California, the area between the state of Minas and Rio de Janeiro it's so beautiful, it's seems to be in Europe but with Brazilian price tag. As far as Aviation goes Brazil has the 2nd biggest GA in the world, with 2000 public airports and a ton of private strips.

I love it here, I live across the Sugar Loaf, I'm on the beach in 5 minutes take some waves with my board and have a beer (on the beach), I buy all my food off the street (we use the fridge for beers), amazing BBQs. Best of all is that I don't need a car, here buses are cheap and they take you everywhere.

Downside is the beaurocracy and the prices of imported gooods.

Maybe it just Sao Paulo that's a hellhole then. I went to Porto Alegre and it was like another country down there. People were much more polite and everything was overall cleaner. Gramado was awesome. I don't understand why the whole country can't be like that.

Hey Swiss got a question .. It might be a stupied one but I wasnt really sure so am gonna ask you guys...rsrs If go to brazil and a get a conversion license , I still get to keep the FAA right ? Second question hows the charter and corporate flying down there? Any N tail planes flying around..? thanks man

I'll give you some info until Swiss chimes in.

Getting your license converted to the ANAC equivalent does not affect your FAA equivalents.

As for N-tails, fwiw, a buddy of mine flies a N-tail lear based in Brazil.

Yes you are gonna keep your FAA license. You will not be allowed to keep your FAA logbook to record flights here (only if done on a N reg. plane), you will have to get a CIV and copy all your hours on it. funny thing is that ANAC asks you to bring a record of all the hours you did for training (like something written by the flight school), but they don't care about other hours, they never look at your FAA logbook....

AS far N reg planes goes, there are many, not so much in the Rio area, but in MG it's crazy there are so many King Air, Falcons, Gulfstreams, ...all N reg. If somebody buys a new plane (in the States) it's gonna be reg in Brazil, lot's of used ones just stay November, most of them are 91.

Corporate is growing, there is lots of heli flying here. TAM started a taxi service with the Cessna 400s, lots of other small ones are flying Cirrus, if you have some kind cirrus-glass-cockipt time you are in. Most fresh CPL holders here have never seen a glass cockipt (or an HSI). I met a lot of cirrus pilot that did their training in the US, phoenix east in Daytona (that's where most Brazilians go).....

Hey thanks bctav8r and thanks swiss.. Yea guys am thinking of heading to brazil in the next couple of months it would be great to get a flying job there in a N tail plane. But if not am willing to do the conversion. To answer your question swiss I did alot of my time in a da 40 diamond. Alot of it was glass training with the G1000, so I know it pretty well. I guess that would be awesome if I got a job there like that. I just hope my wimpy 265hrs is not a problem. Thanks for the info swiss maybe we can meet up in copacabana some day,

Azul and Passaredo has hired with less than that, the best would be in the 500TT.

I was talking to a company here, they have two SR22, a King Air C90GT, a beechjet and a Falcon 2000 (registred in the US)

They are hiring on the Falcon, 1500TT and on the cirrus, 500TT.....but I don't know if it's worth it, I know one of the guys there and he gets to fly like once a week.

Trip is getting bigger so maybe they are going to hire too.

Sure will. I am leaving Tuesday arriving BH Wednesday am. Will see what I can learn between doing the family stuff...

Hey guys! I'm also a Brazilian citizen I have lived in the us for the past 14 years. I'm graduating college with all my ratings in December of this year.

I also have been thinking about moving to Brazil trying to start my career.
I would much rather stay in the US. I have lived here for most of my life and i'm not sure I would be willing to make such a big move for a job flying a jet at 500hrs. But in the same token there are no jobs here! A lot of my friends can't even find instructor jobs here!

What scares me about Brazil is this crazy aviation expansion smell like a bubble to me. And as we all know when a bubble bursts its not pretty. A lot of people are talking about things picking up in the US around 2012 if thats the case I rather work a menial job waiting for things to pick up around here.

The regional aviation in Brazil is really good, lots of peoples from outside are investing, Ryanair is going to take over Webjet, money from Angola is on is way to get more aviation in the north part of the country.

All, All the airlines have aircraft on order, fleet age is really young.

pilot pay, is about the same then in the US, but life costs a lot less, upgrade times are crazy fast.

TAM is star alliance now, they started as a taxi company with cessnas, not ages ago

Gol is gonna start flying intl

Variglog is growing and money from outside is on the way for new planes

WebJet has brand new B737 on order

Trip is adding 30 more routes, is the world biggest EMB fleet

Oceanair has new planes on order, and they work with Avianca now

Azul (Jet Blue) and Passaredo are waiting for new EMBs

Rumors say that Virgin is going to open a branch in Brazil

Man you really did your research. I spoke to a good friend who flies in Brasil and he also agrees that things are real good right now down there. As a matter of fact I grew in a small town in Santa Catarina and there are 4 Embraer phenoms being delivered this year ordered by some local mid sized companies.

I heard rumors that TAM is gonna resume hiring this year.

TAM is already hiring rated pilots, so is Gol, I was at ANAC this week and I met a pilot of LTU, he worked in Brazil in the 80´s after that he flew Brazilian routes for 15 years and he was able to get the Brazilian passport now, he told me that TAM is in need of FOs (in Brazil when they are looking for pilots, the term FO means that he has to be rated, for non rated pilots they just use the term co-pilot).

I wish I could apply as co-pilot on their Caravan fleet, I meet all the requirements, also if charter they only take Brazilians.

The rumor I heard is for non-rated. 1500tt w/out degree and 1000tt with.
