waiting for my flight to board. The flight before me is gong out right now and I just heard an announcement for the TSA performing a secondary screening. Seriously. YHGTBFSM. Did they fail to properly screen people the first time? So sick of the TSA and all their silly antics.

I think that's a fair question to ask when you go through again.

I never understood the purpose of the secondary screening. I encountered it a lot at JFK.

They do that all the time in DTW. Stupid smurfs. In RIC i have to take my badge out of the plastic holder because its policy. Policy? Thats the only place that does it that way.

It's national policy, actually, and you can thank one of your co-workers for that one. It's just that very few airports still do it, but when I was here in 2007/2008 you always had to take it out.

The best I've had so far was the guy in CID that took about 5 minutes (no crap, 5 minutes) investigating my badge. He wasn't convinced it was me, being that at the time I had my hair buzzed down and I was actually smiling, which is pretty much the polar opposite of me when I go through a TSA checkpoint.

What about when they hit that air horn and tell everyone to stop walking. By what authority?

I have never seen that, when/why is this tactic used?

I have to say, I personally have yet to experience a less than courteous TSA employee, thing is, I have to remind myself not to have an attitude toward the individual in the silly blue uniform because the idea of DHS and the TSA in particular makes my head feel like it is going to explode.

Being not-LEOs despite what some of them think (seriously), I'm not really sure they have the authority to tell you to stop moving.

I am also not a lawyer, and it's a lot easier for me to lodge protests through appropriate channels, rather than buying myself some extra fun.

Oh, I wish I could say that.

They make you take your badge out in CLE. I've seen the secondary screenings a lot too. I just shake my head and continue walking. What a waste.

I am sure if I had your level of day to day exposure I would be unable to say it as well.

We all know it is a total farce, seriously, 8 BILLION in United States currency last year alone. Sorry, I fear a stroke is coming on, MUST....STOP....THE RANT.....

I had to do that in SFO a month ago. I guess everybody and their uncle knows how to make an employee badge with a hologram these days.

"Random screening" always kills me. Like they're just going to get lucky and catch a terrorist?

When they say "secondary screening", does that mean everyone being re-screened? Or does it mean someone being pulled aside for additional screening?

In my main line of work, when at a checkpoint and being sent to a "secondary inspection", it means the latter.

    No.
No I mean everyone had to put their hands in a little machine and have their id's checked a second time. I wasn't on the flight but I watched it all go down.

Huh.. Last time that happened to me they just wanted to see our boarding passes and our ID's again before boarding. There were 2 TSA jerkoffs. When it was my turn to board I just told them the other guy already checked me, they let me on... What a system we have in place....

Most of the guys are just doing their jobs. It doesn't bother me if they're courteous and just trying to get you through.

I'm just doing my job too and the majority of the time I'm courteous to them as well. Then you run across a few with the "I've got a badge" syndrome. I'd had it that day... One was questioning me with small talk while waiting IN LINE for security about the contents of my Pelican case... Making completely inappropriate comments around other passengers about it's contents. How he know's only expensive or deadly things travel in those cases and how they're gonna find out soon if it's not the latter. Ha-ha-ha...
