Did the regional thing thinking that was how I was going to climb up the next rung of the career ladder. It can be but for most its as far as they'll get big its not their fault. So I did the office job. Got hired as a rail road dispatcher. Big money, pension, best insurance that cost me almost nothing. But I gave it up and am sitting in the terminal in ATL on my way to an African country to fly.
I don't care about sitting in an office for 30 years hating life for a pension. I can fly until I die if I have to but something tells me this job is going to lead to something bigger and better.

Of course I flew freight. I'm a man.
    But no, really.
Have been here for almost a month. Have lost close to 12 lbs. The food is fresh and the meat is free from breast inducing hormones. The people are quite nice with a great sense of humor and move at their own pace. Which also happens to be my pace. Why rush and get so uptight about things? Departure at 12? Okay. We go at 1228 so we can say we weren't 30 minutes late like the guys next door. Okay with you Commander?
The flying is bush with technology. Garmin 530/430 stack, Terrain, radar, big sheep skin seats. Its quite nice when you get down to it. The people that steal...I mean take the fee's at the destinations all do it with a smile. Bought a motorcycle and theres nothing more exhilarating than trying to navigate a two lane road with 4 cars abreast, two other motorcycles and a bunch of people walking and on bicycles.

On a side note: The UN is a completely worthless, scumbag, degenerate organization that does nothing but take money, lets people die and then sit around and complain that they don't have the resources to stop the killing. But in the mean time they all get brand new Land Cruisers, maids, servants, houses, guards and a brand new Twatter (yes! they are rolling off the assembly line as we type!) to take him on a day trip or whats even better is when some DB flies in on a 733 and only one (1) person gets off and stays for 20 minutes. Saving the world with someone elses dollar one day at a time. They know where Kony is. The listen to him talk every day on the radio and have a fleet of airplanes over him at all times but somehow he just manages to slip away while the local commander takes the pallet of American tax payers money and spends it on wine, women and bribes for his cousins or tribe members.

Ok. End of rant. Everyone knows Africa is fully F'd but I guess if you can save one it was worth 2.8 billion dollars. At least there are German girls here. That is all.

TIA man TIA. Where are you at? I'm guessing somewhere central. I tried my luck in South Africa but the reverse partide going on there wasn't helping. I never met a pilot group as uninviting as them, wouldn't even help me with converting to SA license. Stay safe.

I hate to say it but I'd have to agree with you on the UN thingy. My uncle in law is an ambassador for one of them there african countries and tries to make a difference, but all he encounters are people trying to stop making progress...don't lose too much weight!

I lived for over a year in a country that has a big amount, for it`s size, of peoples working for many NGOs and Govt Aid Programs.

I have done flights for several of them, many of them would snob our single engine C206/207 and they would take a whole Islander for 3 pax....In 90% of the cases it`s a waste of tax and donation money, to be honest the only Program that I saw working pretty well are the Peace Corps, even if you see those guys tanning at the 5 star resorts often. most of their projects are really nice and the money seems spent pretty well..

I guess things have not changed much since my UN assignment 20 years ago. One of the most corrupt organizations I ever saw, and when corruption bubbled to the surface people were not punished. Instead fingers were wagged at us for trying to impose our Western ideals on those involved. I don't think many people realize it but the UN Sea Treaty that many are pushing the US to ratify would force us to transfer a great deal of the US royalties to a UN "Authority" which would then dole out the royalties as it sees fit. Talk about a boondoggle for the corrupt.
