That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing......we are overpoplutating the Earth at an amazing rate. It's just culling the herd. ;)

Over the years, I've completely released myself from the desire to b*t*h slap any of those individuals, and I simply "clown" on them using the questioning techniques combined with a relative mother, sister, or wife input. . . as in:

Wasn't that your mother/sister/wife I met in the grocery store parking lot last night? If it was, tell her that was the best "he*d I've ever had. . .

. . .it was your relative, right? I could be wrong, but she truly had a family resemblance to you! Your eyes. . .your lips!

If they fall for it, as most do, it takes all the race inputs away and makes it a battle of wits. Those I'll usually win; either way, walking off, I'll still smile saying "Damn, whoever she was, she was good! If you see her, tell her that for me."

I find the best way to deal with racist/ignorant people is to undermind them with a huge smile on your face. They are usually too dumb to catch on.

. . .and I'm inclined to do that with the older generation folks . . .sometimes.

As an aspiring African American Pilot I've always been concerned with this matter. I have been concerned that an industry with maybe little more or less than 1% is controlled by those who were raised in such a manner of racist bigots, I, and or we have to face those individuals for hiring purposes? Thank-you for your confirmation of my beliefs, not an attack on you, and thank-you for not being a racist and sorry for being exposed to our dailey lifestyles here in America, that you were exposed to in the cells of Hawaii, (unfair treatment, beatings, for no apparent reason)

I had just got back from a flight one day about 5 months ago and was walking back into the FBO when this man who looked about 50 stopped me.

He had a pretty thick Texan accent-which isn't a suprise anymore- and started chatting me up about flying, aviation, the airlines etc.... he was an amature aviation enthusist.

He seemed like a pretty nice guy when all of a sudden he turned to me and asked me how I felt about, what he reffered to as: "Affirmative BLACKction getting people into the cockpit who don't belong..."

I did a double take, and just kind of went "Hu? What was that?" This guy was so stupid he didn't even know when to stop.

He went on about how he wouldn't feel comfortable in a plane piloted by blacks or hispanics. He even jabbed at women, saying how could a woman fly if they are not strong enough to pull back on the yoke in an emergency.....

I didn't know if I should punch this guy or just laugh. Earlier he had been asking me if I could take him up sometime to show him what flying Cessnas was like. So I simply calmly said:

"Well, I'm latin myself. Take care of yourself..." And walked away. Actually I'm Portuguese/Italian which is technically Latin. I have light skin and green eyes so this idiot didn't even realize he was shooting racist remarks about Latins while talking to one :)

I was actually pretty pissed for the better part of a week. There was more I wished I had said and done. But soon I realized that ignorant people are everywhere and they are not going to change. I actually feel sorry for these people.

You're right, but I think I can extend this a little further to accommodate you both...

The more cruder forms of racism and bigotry tend to be more overt from the lower classes - I.E. - the stereotypical brain-dead hick spending a fun-filled Friday night at a Klan cross-burning...

The "upper classes" - again, stereotypically - lean toward an economic form of racism...thus you have 'white flight' and exclusionary practices at private country clubs, etc.

It's all shapes and sizes, subjective and highly emotionally charged - but for the purposes of discussing racism as an entity itself rather than a personal, codifying set of behaviors, the class distinction is appropriate.

Perhaps the most absurd thing I have read this week! What class do you fall into PGT??

I would like to rewrite this to give my opinion---Racist people are classless.

    Well said Doug!!!

As far as the passenger making threats against one of my crewmembers, I'd land the plane and get his a$$ off of there.

    I am prejudice of racists;)

Seriously, growing up on or near military bases, I had friends of all sorts of ethnic backgrounds and never once thought about racism and prejudice. Then my father retired and we moved to a very rural town in upstate NY. There were 3 African-American people in my high school. One was the star football player, and my close friend. Everyone liked him until he started dating one of the best looking gals in our class. Then the "N" word came out and he was often challenged to fights over it. The funny thing is, the girl was 100% American Indian. Hypocrites!
Truly though, it is just ignorance and I regard those who are racist as ignorant.

I stay away from any racist in my personal life. In my professional life, I have come across it a few times. When I used to work in operations, my boss was African-American, but all of his drivers were Caucasian. One driver thought it OK to tell me and another person how bad the place had gotten since the "N" had taken over. I had him brought up on charges and he was subsequently fired. No tolerance for that kind of stuff, ignorant or not, in the workplace.

    Another good Loadmaster story:
We had a guy in our squadron who was from Tennessee and was very open about his hatred of non-whites. He always told us how his whole family was in the KKK and he would be when he got out. I even remember him yelling the "N" word to a bunch of African-Americans walking by the dorm once. They came over and kicked the living crap out of him. He was mad because everyone just left him there to his fate.

Well, this dummy takes a mission down to New Orleans, running the presidents limos down for Mardi Gras (Clinton and his Sax). On crew rest he, and another crewmember, go to the "wrong" side of town and purchase a bag of Marijuana from an African-American. While haggling over price, ole boy makes a comment that the weed can't be worth much because it is "N" Weed. The man pulls out a gun and puts a bullet in his head at point blank range, killing him almost instantly. We know the story because the other guy ran for it and spewed the truth when he got back to the hotel. Not that anyone deserves to die, but I did not feel sorry for him.

Concur. His overt arrogance in that and the other particular situation reeks of a Darwin Award candidate or at a minimum, someone with a severe death wish.

Sometimes, people just don't get it.

Ok I was on one of my many USAir flights to Europe, London again. And I had a first class seat (that was one expensive <edited> seat, note to self try envoy, envoy) I had a window which I always try to get.

So I walk kinda late (bathroom run) boarding and this guy is sitting in my EXPENSIVE ASS first class window seat. And this is how it went.

Me: "Excuse me sir I think you are in my seat" looking at my boarding pass stub to make sure I am correct.

Asshol4: "I highly doubt it, your type can't afford a first class seat on this flight"

Yes ladies and gentlemen he told me that, with his head held high and all proud of himself.

My first reaction was absolute anger. I wanted to take my laptop out of my bag and bash him over the head until TSA came to cart me away. But I made a remark (which I will not repeat here) and almost died laughing because of the look on his face from what I had said. I mean I was almost on the floor. The F/A came over. When I told here what was going on she then turns and start apologizing. Now I am looking at her like what for. Why do you feel the need to apologize for this holessa?
