Qatar Airways

There is talk of other international airlines here that hire US pilots except Qatar. Has anyone applied/interviewed/been hired by them? If so what was the process like?

I know someone who just got hired there for a September A319/320/321 class. He is an FO at Mesaba on the RJ.

Yeah they've hired Canadian pilots, just like Emirates, Etihad, and Gulf Air.

It's a fancy website called google.com

It's actually rather easy to use.

You simply go to google.com and type in the words "Qatar Airways."

You'll see a website called "www.qatarairways.com." Click it.

Then, you'll see a lot of things called "links" that you can click on on their page.

Find one called "jobs" or "employment" or something along those lines.

Then, follow the instructions on the employment sites to "submit your resume."

EASY!!!!!!

(PS> Don't go into any interview with them thinking our worthless FAA ground training is going to help you slide by--you won't make it).

PPS> If you're having trouble figuring out how to send an application into Qatar, you're probably even worse off trying to figure out what to prepare for for the interview...so you should probably just not apply...you'll just waste their time and yours unless you study the right stuff....

After you submit your resume does it explain how the process works? Interviews? Training, etc? Does it explain how to be dick in an internet thread as well?

They hired a guy from the UAE that i went to college in the states with- He has all US ratings though. Being from that country probably couldn't have hurt him in the interview, but i know for a fact all of his ratings were US, and he had lived here for 6-8years working and CFI etc etc.

He seems to really enjoy it back over there, and working for them for what its worth.

there are a load of Brazilian pilots over there, in Brazil this is the goal of almost every pilot. I met some of them that use to be Capt on B767 now they fly as FO on A320 and 737.......they just do it for the money. there are also lots of expats at Sama (most of the expats don`t live in Saudia they live in Bahrain) http://www.flysama.com/en/index.htm

As of the posting on their website yesterday its not looking to good for them.

My friend an A330 F/O for Qatar, French citizen and she told me the other day that Qatar would not hire more US pilots because it seems very difficult for them to check for loogbook accuracy, they have had several cases where the applicants or hired pilots were clearly claiming qualifications or hours they did not have. It might change, a lot of south american pilots are returning home. They are also selling their A340/600 to a south american company (Argentina I think).

Anyone know what the turnaround time is once you submit the application to when they would call for an interview? Also, any gouges out there for them? Thanks.

Would like to know as well. Put a application in a couple weeks ago, got the automated response email but nothing since.

Just my $0.02, Qatar is cold feet with FAA applicants right now. They have had problems in the recent past with applicants claiming hours and experience they clearly didn't have. Turnover is big, and the A330 contract is not very interesting. New company policies makes pilots life very hard. An example : A330 pilots sleep in the cockpit, they are not allowed to rest in the business class. They are not even allowed to take a blanket or a pillow.

I'd wait for Emirates unless you absolutely needed the work. I know Emirates is not the end all be all in aviation, but from my research they offer better QOL, Pay, working environment and domicile (Dubai vs Qatar).

Flying the 777 may sound attractive but after 6 months you'll find yourself in Qatar under hostile management asking yourself why?

Fact is Emirates will need hundreds of pilots in the next 3 years. Their HR recruiter has stated the current mins (weight) cannot be maintained if they hope to recruit the numbers needed to staff the airline.

Most complaints coming out of Emirates now are directly related to the poor staffing they currently have...Pilots are overworked because they need more people (good for a potential applicant).

They all will. They have a major problem, there is no legacy flight training in those countries, and let's face it, who applies to Qatar, Emirates et al ? Pilots who didn't make it with their national airlines, old captains that got hit by the 60 year retirement limit...
Don't get me wrong, there are some great pilots flying for those companies, but there are some pretty bad ones too.
Management is pretty harsh, the contracts are not all that great once you take away the usually very expensive COL.
The A330 contract for FO with Qatar sucks. Big time. And upgrade time to CA is 4/6 years. That's a long time on those schedules.
Moving to the Middle East must be studied very, VERY carefully. It's a different game out there, socially, culturally,... It is particularly hard on the families, not even mentionning the weather factor.
But they'll train you well, you'll get tons of widebody intercontinental glass time... Oh an they bond you 3/5 years.
It's a good place to standby waiting for better days at home, but living there permanently ? One must be insane.

They have suspended their services ( Sama )
i believe they are bankrupt .
