    I have to go digging on some of my old hard drives but I had something called 101 reasons why I hate my instructor. It covered just about anything you can think of for IFR flying, would this by chance be what your referring to?

    Nope. It actual name is the "Instrument Know All Handout." Think of it as the FAA IFR book broken down into about 12-15 pages. All the FAA filer words are missing (you know, the stuff that goes into a book so it's long enough to justify makeing a book out of it).

    Well if you find it post it up I would definitely love to stick that in my files for II days. The one I am talking about is basically the same thing the college just probably changed the name.

    Will do. I am waiting on an e-mail from someone I sent a PM to. If I do, I'll send it your way.

    What's funny is that I found that online and uploaded it on JC a while ago.

    I have another one, slightly better actually, just gotta put it into a .doc file (I have the printout)...I'll do that at work this week :D

    This confused me... maybe its late...

    -WHEN MUST WE FILE AN ALTERNATE:
    - Always, except when within 1 hour before ETA to 1 hour after ETA, the weather is forecasted to be 2000’ and 3 miles
    visibility

    The "always, except" part confused me. It seems like the handout is contradicting itself. The way I'm reading this, it seems like, according to the PDF, you ALWAYS file an alternate except when the 123 rule applies. Isn't it the other way around?

    Nope.Read the reg. What does it say?

    ==============================
    61.169(a) Unless otherwise authorized by ATC, each person filing an IFR flight plan must include in it the following information:
    ****
    (2) Except as provided in paragraph (b) of this section, an alternate airport.
    ==============================

    Might be a semantic difference, but the rule says that you file an alternate except when certain conditions apply and IMO it's a far better way to teach it. You're being confused by it is evidence of that.

    I see his confusion though if he changed:

    this to include at least like the reg does then it would be easier to understand:

    You mean 91.169 by the way.

    Please do :)

    Anyone got anything similar with VFR PPL focused stuff? I can just go through and X out anything that doesn't apply, but on the off chance someone already has... :p
