She plans to attend a new flight school to be operated with Delta Air Lines at Sinclair Community College in Dayton. It opens Monday.

"The idea of being a pilot came up, but it seemed too impractical," said Nankivell, 20, of suburban Kettering. "When I found out that Delta was going in with Sinclair, that really affirmed my decision. This is a major airline. I could probably get a job with them."

The Dayton school will be the fourth college-affiliated program operated by Delta Connection Academy, the airline's pilot- training subsidiary.

Yet another student sucked into the ' train at DCA, and Delta will hire you ' advertisement. I dont know... I feel that DCA advertisements for their flight program are entirely misleading !

Does she even realize it'll be a long time before Delta would hire any newbie, and even when they do, she won't have any significant advantage being a DCA graduate as opposed to others like military, other regional pilots, etc.

    your preachin to the choir.

Their latest scam also is a thing called "JetConnect". They try to sucker in students who have done most of their training with an FBO and convice them to get their CFI-MEI at DCA to the tune of 30G's so they can get a "guaranteed interview".

    Caveat emptor.

I don't see why these folks think that at a time where there have been tens of thousands of furloughs and there's talk of legacy carriers disappearing that just because they go to xyz school, they'll get a job.

    Get real, people!

But as they say, a fool and his (or in this case, her) money are soon parted.

Hell they got a Pan Am reference in their too. What is this, write the biggest piece of propaganda contest?

Seriously though... this will hurt people like her. She's just entertained the thought of being a pilot. Others like her, actually think that they will get on with Delta because they trained at DCA, "which is owned by Delta."

It just sucks knowing people are going to lose thousands of $$$$$ simply due to misleading advertisement.

You know, I'm kind of with you, but then I'm kind of thinking, look, if you're stupid enough to fall for it....

It's kind of like the dude who "invested" all of his retirement money in the hot tips stocks that he heard about back in the dot com days and then lost it when the bubble burst.

I feel bad, but it's kind of their own fault, you know?

I was conversating with a fellow MTSU guy today, and he mentioned that he'd never seen me out at the airport in Murfreesboro. I told him that i didn't do any training there, and that I'd saved alot of money and heartache by doing it all part 61, and all at FBO's.

He was like, "Well, that's cool, but you'll pay for that when we're competing at an interview. . ."

haha, i got a line like that too Lloyd. I went to sign up for a IFR groundschool through the college, and the FBO that contracts with the school was just agast that i wasnt doin a 141 program. "You know 141 is the route professionals choose, you will be looked down upon if you havent completed 141 standards of training". grrr....

"We're very much aware of the hiring needs of the regionals. That's whom we're targeting with our graduates," Vice President Bob Crook said. "We're constantly expanding our fleet of aircraft, and we're hiring instructors continuously."

Oh and they claim they hired 1000 pilots this year. What did they hire them to do? Clean the toilets?

Darby estimates 10,000 openings for pilots this year, well above the long-term average. Many of those openings will be because a large number of pilots are approaching retirement age, he said.

About 1,300 of the 59,000 pilots for major U.S. airlines are expected to retire this year, Darby said. That number will continue to increase annually, reaching about 2,300 in 2007, he said.

[/ QUOTE ]Is this the new math? 10,000 openings this year - many due to retirement - 1300 to retire this year. [IMG]
