Flight Instructor - University Air Center @ KGNV

This didn't receive a lot of interest on the members only side of the Jobs Available section so here we go again...

University Air Center is a full service FBO in Gainesville, FL with an active part 61 and 141 flight school that is looking to hire a couple new flight instructors. Currently our student load exceeds our instructor availability so you would be put to work right away if hired. While this is an entry level position our company strongly prefers to promote from within and this is a great way to get your "foot in the door" at a successful aviation company in North Central Florida.

Our current fleet consists of 2 G-1000 Equipped C-172's, 1 Piper Warrior, a Cessna 210L, a G-1000 Cessna 182 Turbo, and 1 turbocharged Piper Seminole. We also have a Redbird flight simulator.

Minimums:

Commercial SEL / MEL / INST
CFI / CFI-I (MEI preferred)
325 TT
Must be willing and able to work weekends

How many hours do instructors typically fly a month?

I met AviatorGator and some of the other instructors today while on a layover at GNV. If you meet the minimums, you're stupid for not applying. UAC and AviatorGator run a top notch operation, and you WILL open up doors for yourself by making the effort to land this job. Who knows, you may get the opportunity to leave a good impression on some random Challenger pilots that pass through town.

Does this have anything to do with the Citation charter op that runs out of there?

It is the same company and I am one of the Citation captains but this job offer is for flight instructing with our flight school.

And yes, we are still looking for flight instructors!

I need to hurry up and get my MEI/CFI/CFII done! I know the mins listed are 325TT, but do you think they'd consider a fresh instructor with less than 300 hours? I'm at 253TT right now, and I imagine that number will only be marginally higher by the time I get done with the ratings.

If I was done with school I would definitely apply... Maybe next year! Good luck with filling the position.

I have the same question as Sprebound, I'm at 272 and I don't see myself above 280 by the time I'm done with my CFI/CFII

What is the availability to get hired on on the citation side of the operation after CFI'ing? Monthly average from current instructors(flight time)? and Pay scale? if I can ask

Well, the insurance company (and myself) like to see a minimum of 325 especially if it is someone we didn't train.

I can't stress enough that if you are really interested in this position, you need to actively show interest in trying to get the job! Private messages, emails, and phone calls are strongly recommended.

As I've said before, this is a CFI position. We do like to hire from within so if you impress us and there is a necessity to hire in the charter department it is not out of the question. No guarantees though.

Our active instructors average around 60 hours of flight time or more a month. The pay scale is an hourly tier system that is performance based. The tier starts at $17.50 an hour for basic instruction/$20.00 for advanced and can go as high as $25.00/$27.50 if you bill 50 hours of instruction or more in a two week period. This applies to the entire pay period's work, not just for the hours that you exceed 20, 35, or 50 hours of instruction.

Bryant Jensen still instructing over there? He was my instructor back in 1999 when I started my Private through Commercial.

Met with AviatorGator and Co. the other day for an interview. Great bunch of people. Top notch operation no doubt. Facility looks great. Planes look heathy. Sim was nice. Maintenance looked active. Really enjoyed my meetup with these guys there. UAC genuinely wants you to be part of the team and it shows hence why I accepted their offer. I went through 2 weeks of interviewing with several flight schools in FL and TX before deciding to go with UAC. There are bigger flight schools/academies out there that take out the fun from flying. I talked to several instructors at the various schools to get their opinions. The instructors are just drained out from overflying and were just using their CFI tickets to build hours which translates to poor performance onto the students. "Get hours, get out" is what I was told.

Instructing is not the most enjoyable thing on the planet but what I'm looking for is to at least not make it suck and with that said, I truly believe instructing for UAC will provide me that positive learning experience in a close-knit work environment that I am looking for in a school.

Bryan retired from UAC a couple years ago. I still see him around the airport from time to time. I think he might still do some freelance instruction. Great guy.

I'm close to the CFI checkride and would love to move back to Gainesville which I consider home! Guess I need to get the CFII and MEI before I apply. Dr. Irvin Gleim would be my reference since I used to work for him doing research in his aviation department.
