Can the galley curtain not be MEL'ed? Flight attendant broke it and we sat in the box for about 15 minutes before.returning to the gate. Now maintenance is on the plane fixing it.

If they could have MEL'd it, they would have.

Maybe the MEL has an item that MX must correct, thus the return to the gate.

Or even, perhaps, there was another issue the crew was dealing with that was completely unrelated to the curtain.

Well, after 40 minutes of screwing with it, and passengers sitting there wondering WTF is going on, the mechanic finally just took it down, and we were on our way.

It is a NEF at Eagle.

Here is fro the MEL book.

May be missing, removed, or inoperative
provided the curtain does not interfere with the
    emergency exits.
PLACARD: Adjacent to the instrument panel
    aircraft registration number identifier placard.
    NOTE
Galley curtain will be removed from the aircraft.
It is not required for dispatch.
