Does anything come close to Southwest?

Can't wait for tomorrow! All of my flying started at MDW, and it will be nice to come back. I will have to say that I will miss the CSR part of my old job, but it will be nice to come back to the ramp!

You'll spend about 3 weeks or so with a trainer (first week computer standardization stuff, second/third learning the ramp) and then you'll go to Dallas for a week.

They probably gave you the city codes to memorize for Dallas, but they actually don't test on them anymore, at least they didn't for my class. Memorize them anyways.

You're going to work really hard. I've seen the work the guys do out there at the big stations, it's pretty intense. We're babied and spoiled at downline stations.

Are you serious?!? They don't even test you on city codes anymore? That seems crazy. That's really one of the major things that you need to learn..

From what I've been hearing lately, much has changed in the way they hire. I heard they have one of those computerized application kiosks like when you apply for a job at Walmart,.. :crazy: I remember when it was very difficult to get hired at Southwest, and if you were hired it was a pretty big achievement. I was interviewed by who is now the station manager of our station and had to jump through all kinds of hoops. It took 3 interviews and I was actually hired twice but got mixed up in a technicality the first time..

When I started at SNA they told us the whole time they were going to, but when I actually went to Dallas it didn't happen. In fact, when I first went to get my picture taken for my badge in PHX one of the people department girls said that when she started, they had to memorize the company mission and all sorts of stuff for Dallas. I guess it's gotten much easier.

I've never seen one of the application kiosks, but everything is done online now. That being said, it's still really hard to get into SWA. Somewhere on SWALife it has an interesting facts section, and talks about how something like 85,000 people applied in 2009, and less than a 1,000 were admitted. That's pretty rough odds, if you ask me.
