I'm headed to the Detroit-area in mid-May, specifically Clinton Township. I'll be headed up in a Lance. What's my best bet for a GA airport? DET? VLL? Romeo State? I'd love to go into the ANGB, but they don't sell Avgas (on top of the PPR). Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

PTK will have the most action and probably the cheapest fuel. 57D is probably the closest to Clinton Township, followed by D98 and VLL...

I live under 15 minutes from vll, and around 30 mintes from the rest, so let me know when you're in town!

Which one is easiest in and out? PTK looks pretty good, but I don't want to get wrapped up with a lot of ground time (rental plane). I do need a rental car if that changes your answer. Thanks!

I would say D98 and VLL are about the same distance. With D98, you can get right on the expressway a 1/2 mile away and drive 13-14 miles and you're in Clinton Township, depending on where you're going there.

With VLL, you will have better access to self serve fuel (dunno how thats done at D98), and youre looking at a 20 minute or so trip down 16 mile rd to get into Clinton Township. CT is a big city, where at there are you going?

I live in Sterling Heights btw, and I have flown out of both.

I'm voting for VLL given the rental car issue.

    Why haven't we met 89X

I would avoid landing at KDET. It's in a kind of nasty part of town that you very likely want nothing to do with.

...which is why I didn't even bother talking about it. Driven there once, ran every stop sign.

This is the kind of good info I'm looking for. Thanks! DET off the list.

If you have a concealed carry permit, it's not a problem to go to DET. I crossed 8 Mile Rd and smiled at every thug I saw : )

VLL isn't too bad, I've been in there a few times...though my friend that picked me up ran every stop light/stop sign in sight.

I flew into there every Monday and sat around, go out for lunch at a near by diner. I think you can buy a house in the area for about $10

And whats sad is you're not exaggerating. My buddy and his dad buy up houses. They bought one for $9,000 in Roseville, which isnt even detroit. And they over paid.

We're going up for a family "reunion" of sorts (wife's family). Maybe we'll get "diverted" to Chicago for some reason (weather, broken part, etc.) and just have to stay there instead.

If you don't mind a drive KYIP is only 30 minutes from Downtown Detroit, KARB is about 40. Arb is much nicer i think.
