The title may be missleading.. but after u guys watch the video.. its obvious that both the supposedly experienced pilots were either totally deaf.. or the ANR headsets were doing a great job...
However nothing can justify not using a checklist for final....

    What do you think?

I didn't have sound running when I saw this. But I doubt it was an ANR headset that caused this. I think they should have checked to see if they had three green. Which is too bad because to at least check it takes like what a second? Also doesn't that plane have some sort of audible warning that the gear us up?

I think you've never used an ANR headset if you think one had anything to do with that.

ANR headsets drown out the engine / prop sounds. That gear warning would have been coming through loud and clear.

What do I think? I think some people have absolutely no business flying airplanes. Especially people who wear sweaters tied around their necks.

Meh, a few jacks, a ball-pein hammer, a little bondo, and some polish....good as new.

I would like to know what percentage of retractable gear airplanes have been belly landed at least once in their life... based on the used market I've seen it seems to be a large percentage. In other words, they invite the opportunity for the sloppy, non-checklist oriented pilot to have their errors exposed in great glory on the mighty interwebs.

I'd be curious to know what percentage actually have a warning horn that works.

And what percentage tests the horn at each annual, or whatever.

That will buff right out! I have never had trouble hearing any warning sound with an ANR headset on.

I think its one of those things that sometimes just goes unnoticed ignored. Those horns are surprisingly expensive. After 2000+ hours in 210s alone, i would say 3/4 of the time the gear horn, stall horn, or both didnt work. Come to think of it, most of the time most of the things didnt work, but thats a different story.

For a large T-prop/jet, you absolutely should have several warning systems, but if you're relying on a warning horn in a small piston, you're doing it wrong.

I will say though; there are times when losing ANR could cause some real problems. If you use a qc15, you know that the damn thing goes silent when the battery goes out. I "know a guy" that had that happen on a PAR approach down to mins, with no back up. Things got kind of interesting.

I've been flying all kinds of planes with all kinda of headsets. There is NO way that an ANR headset would block out the gear horns. Yes, I'd agree that loosing your ANR due to batteries running out is less than ideal, but there is a reason that you still have volume control with ANR off. Its not he most comfortable on the ears, but you crank up the volume and continue flying until you can change the batteries!
