Cathay Cadet Program

I applied about 3-4 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. I thought they would email/call you one way or the other right?

High school grades? Wow I'd be screwed if I had to present those. Yay for good grades in community college!

The cadet program seems to be the way future recruitment is headed here. No DESO/FO hiring forecast, but they have increased the number of Cadet courses to go through Adelaide each year.
The program IS getting better. The union has been able to secure child education allowance and a housing deal probably isn't far off either. It will probably only start once upgrade to FO takes place though (3-4yrs typically)

Those waiting on DEFO, will be waiting a while. If the union has anything to do with it, it will never happen again. It has caused too many problems for the company over the last few years, it would be surprising to see it happen again. By-pass pay issues, seniority issues... the list goes on.
Having said that, Cathay do what they want and worry about it later. So anything is possible. At the end of the day, its a great job here in Hong Kong. Great lifestyle and more time off than any job I've ever had before.

No, I joined as a S/O. The minimums requirements state you will need 1000hrs for S/O, but realistically guys that get hired generally have at least 3000hrs. I had over 5000 with 2000 jet hrs at date of joining. Other guys had heavy turboprop time and then others even from the air-force, some coming off fast jets.

The cadet program is constantly running and Cathay are stepping things up a notch right now, I believe they are doubling the number of classes to go through each year (how many classes that is, I'm not sure). Anyone can apply, but they have said they want you to have a 'tie to Hong Kong'... whatever that means...

I'm not 100% sure on when seniority starts for a cadet... I think it may be date of joining the course in Adelaide, Australia. The course is approx 14 months long 'down-under' then you come to Hong Kong and start aircraft conversion, which from ground-school to sim to the line, is give or take 2 months.

I've finished my app - except for my HS grades then I can submit it, still waiting for them as I graduated about 15 years ago. I hope they will consider someone who already has a bunch of flight experience. (and is from the USA) I was hoping to go the DESO/DEFO way - but I would be happy to hit the reset button for the opportunity to work for CX. (which has been my goal since I started this whole aviation thing 10 years ago)

Is there an age limit to join this program? I couldn't find one and I am not in my twenties...
I only have a Private, instrument and about 600 hours and decided to leave my Engineering career. I do have a good pay but I am really tired with it.

No age limit for this one.

CX doesn't care if you have 0 or 1000 hours, they hire personalities. They've picked up 18 year olds with no experience.

I hate short-answer questions. Those two statements under "additional info" are giving me a hard time.

High school grades weren't difficult to put down. There was only room for 12 or so, therefore I picked the best.

I'm waiting to apply, I should be graduating college in the Spring and don't want to have to turn down an interview or anything in the interim. Whether that's a good move or not, I don't know. I'm also curious to see if Etihad will be hiring again next year or not.

I don't graduate till' next summer but I decided to apply anyways.

Finally got my HS Grades in the mail... looking through some of them I know where my "showing up for class in my underclothes/unprepared for a test dreams" might have root in. Anyhoo... application submitted. (finally) Now I have to email the people I know at CX and ask them for an internal recommendation.

2 guys at work applied, one has 1150TT/400ishME the other is a new PPL. According to an F/O I talk to over there, they hire by aptitude and personality not logbooks, as was stated earlier in this thread. I wish them luck, we'll see what happens next.
