I think he means the question of whether an FAA employee can accept the whole gift card thing... it's in one of the past Candlewood threads in here. If you can find it among the many, many others.

But the Candlewood ads aren't so bad until you've see the insane stuff that this one puts up on SM all the time... I think it's Winchester. It's this weird mashup of mid 90's web design (think animated GIFs) and truly bizarre writing... the last two I recall, one simply stated "WHO LET THA DAWGZ OUT:clap::beer::bandit::drool::crazy::rotfl:!!!"

    Weird.

Eh. Maybe. But that doesn't mean that it's all right for housing providers to make illegal offers of financial restitution based upon government status. I'm pretty sure that's called "bribery" in court.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, btw... all while dealing with a customer here at the counter and waiting on hold with crew support... so not sure if what I'm typing is even coherent.

Also, the crazy ads come from Citadel Suites. My apologies to Winchester Run.

You didn't pick up a job in their marketing department while you were waiting, did you? That was alarmingly good.

Me too MikeD. Are hotel points bribes? If not, why is this system a bribe?

It shouldn't be a bribe. If the cards are being offered to all tenants, then its up to the individual tenant to know whether or not they can accept such offers or whether it breaks regulations.

I see. So kickbacks aren't illegal for the ones offering them, just for the people receiving them? I need to send some cash into the people in Oklahoma to get me started already.

I have no idea whether they're being offered to all tenants, but I'm pretty sure that they're only for FAA employees, which is supposedly the problem. I don't really have much interest in finding out -- or continuing this argument -- as I'm neither someone who brought up the question nor someone interested in its resolution. Not gonna be staying at Candlewood either way. Feel free to figure out the OP and ask him if you'd like.

Let me put it to you this way: time was (no longer is) that as a govt employee you could not accept or gain miles garnered from airline tickets used on govt business. Granted, there's really no way the govt would know if you had, you just weren't allowed to. Now, that doesn't make it illegal for the airline to be offering miles for travel, the onus in on the traveller to know if his accepting them is against policy or not.

But then again, why am I explaining any of this to you, as you've already felt the need to point out that you're no interested in the resolution.......which rather than just saying nothing, I wonder why you feel you needed to mention, especially when you were obviously taking part in the conversation as recently as the post you made previous to this one.....

And this response goes for you, the OP, or anyone else interested. If interested in it, take it to heart, if not, then don't.

The easiest way to explain if you can take something or not is: If it's available to the general public, thumbs up; available only to government employees, most likely no unless it benefits the government. End of story.
