INTERVIEW GOUGE, INFORMATION & TIPS

DAY 1:
ASA Headquarters – A-Tech Center – 12:00 p.m.
· Company Overview (Merger, Fleet, Bases, Management, Routes, Benefits, etc)

· 30 Question Multiple-Choice Aviation Knowledge Test (4 Test Versions)
o Topics incl. Aerodynamics, IFR Procedures, FARs, Weather, NTSB-830, etc.
o Sample Questions:
§ When are ATIS broadcasts updated?
§ What is the definition of nighttime?
§ You are told to hold on the 360 degree radial, left turns. You are currently tracking to the station on the 220 degree radial. The recommended holding pattern entry would be:
§ 2400 RVR = ? SM?
§ As CG moves aft, what happens to VMC?

· 50 question cognitive test that has a time limit of 9 minutes.

· Written paragraph on a topic assigned.
Examples:
o What is CRM?
o What makes a good FO?
o How has the industry changed since 9/11?

· A Captain’s Board oral interview of aviation knowledge.
o Paperwork/Logbook Review
o Systems
o Jepps Charts/Plates
o Scenario Questions, etc.

· Human Resource Interview
o Why choose you over the other candidates?
o What can you bring to ASA?
o What three qualities are you looking for at ASA?
o Tell me about a good day/bad day?

· Fingerprints

· Drug Test


DAY 2:
FlightSafety – Various Times – CRJ-200 OR CRJ-700 Level 'D' Simulator
· Simulator Pre-Brief/Overview
o All “Raw” Data (No FD, Autopilot, FMS, etc.)
o Climbs, Turns, Descents
o Holding
o ILS Rwy 27L ATL

Tips:
· Pay attention during the sim pre-brief.
· Slow down first (<230kts), and then figure out hold entry.
· Trim, Trim, Trim if flying CRJ-700 Sim.

I interviewed last week and the above gouge is a fairly good description. You will meet in the A-Tech Center and they're interviewing about 3-5 candidates a day. They take you upstairs and give you a good description of the company and how ASA and ExpressJet are starting to merge various departments as of now. They did say that all new hires are going to ExpressJet (as of now). This could change if they add more classes, etc, but as of now, everyone is going to Houston. They give you the 30 question test (on topics listed above)-fairly straight forward-a written paragraph and the cognitive test. Following that, they will split you up to interview you one on one. Questions were about approach plates, en route charts, lost com procedures, airspace, aircraft systems, and HR situations, but I would be ready for anything. If all goes well, they send you for fingerprints and the drug test. If you make it this far, they will let you know about coming back for the sim the next morning.

The sim is like described above and they do an excellent job of briefing you and making you feel comfortable. As long as you pay attention to the brief, you will be fine. Overall, they do an excellent job of making the interview experience as comfortable as possible for you. Just be yourself, bring the best of your knowledge and flying skills and enjoy it!! Also, I heard that you won't hear right away so if you don't get a call the day after, it doesn't mean anything. Good luck!!

ASA seems like a great company and both ASA and ExpressJet have always had terrific contracts. Besides, ASA is the prized child of the DCI family and do a great job day in and out, should be a no brainer to go there. Good luck to everyone.

Great gouge! Thanks. Does anyone here know whats going on with ASA and the minimums? I heard today, from an e-mail from ATP, that ExpressJet is wanting to hire guys at 600/100. Obviously XJet is ASA now so I don't know whats going on and cant wrap my head around it. Do you guys think that the current ASA minimums are going to continue to fall? I see they have gone from 1500/300 down to 1000/200 which is promising. I only have 105multi. Thanks!

There are two people in my class at XJet with <600 TT. Both had internal recommendations, but the point is, there is no hard line.

It's amazing that the regionals are hiring guys with such low times given the current glut of experienced pilots. Anybody understand why that is?

I heard AWAC had picked some guys up with something like 30me but they had the internal recommendation?

Any busts?

Alot of the experienced guys dont want to work for 22k a yr again. Thats myyyy guess.

Don't think so, but 1 of them has a pending investigation due to a dead stick landing on a Florida road.

I didn't realise Spectrum aviation was still in biz. Just kidding .

Just did my interview today, and this gouge is pretty dead on. Karl did most of the interview, which he made it very relaxed and easy going. They gave us an hour to do the written test and paragraph (Mine was asking about honesty), but it only took me around 15 minutes to do that. Cog test was hard, but I got all 50 done with a few seconds to spare. The HR/Tech portion was done with Fred who is an awesome person with some good stories and learning. All that went well, and it seemed like only 2 of the 4 that were there made it to the drug test/finger printing.

Tomorrow is my ride in the CRJ-200 sim at FSI. I guess this is the last weekend in the CRJ, and starting next week they will be doing the sim rides in a 737-200 at Delta. They also have a class date for ASA now in addition to the 2 at ExpressJet.

36 additional new-hires for the ASA side. Class of 12 starting on 3/7, then next one I heard is 3/21.

Those 2 classes are suppose to be for ExpressJet. This is what I was told yesterday. As far as I know, I'm the first to pick ASA side since they announced it. The ASA class date is April 4th.

It's ASA. We got an internal e-mail today.

Ugh, now I wish I would have selected ExpressJet. I made the decision of ASA based off of what I was told at the interview for class dates and placement.

Anyone know if they are still interviewing people?
