I'm French, my wife is Colombian, she's shouting at me in spanish all the time in true Colombian style, that's how I learned
My spanish is prettay, prettay, prrrretttttttttay good but not fluent for now. We have just recently taken the decision to move back to Colombia, so 2/3 months there in immersion will take care of the missing bits.
Oh and I have the Colombian passport as well, mandatory to apply.
Mike I'll be in DAB mid-october, will you still be in MCO ?

Alex, I'll def hit you up bro. I need someone to chill with when I head to Rio. I'm thinking I'll get the Fokker 100 or A319. Word is they are retiring the 100's tho...

That is precisely when I'm headed down to get my Cedula/passport. Send me a PM when you have a date tho. I'd be very interested to hear what you have to say about your experience.

    Mike,

F100 or A319 with Avianca ? I hear pilot union don't allow direct entry on the Bus. You have to start on the F50. But it seems that upgrade time is pretty fast.

I think I've been there. Is it by a park, serves lots of microbrew?

Here in Brazil, Avianca as FO on the A319 wants 1000TT if you have a degree, 1500TT if you don`t. 75% of Avianca it`s owned by Ocean Air, a Brazilian regional, they have been looking for pilots here since Avianca started flying the new A319 on Brazilian regional routes.

I knew that Avianca was owned by Synergy Group and some brazilian money... Now I have the full picture ;)
I guess the Colombian side of operations is slightly different. I don't mind starting on the F50, the F100's are being phased out, I don't think the upgrade time will be huge to the Buses.
I will submit my app by the end of the year, I need to get my spanish level one notch up before I feel comfortable during an interview.

Yes Doug, a very nice place. The parque is delightful on sundays when it's sunny. There are a few BBC's in Bogota, Andino, Zona T, Usaquen. I like it there. Beer's cold and tasty and good atmosphere.

Good to know. I have a friend who's an American pilot that started at Avianca. He says the 50 was the most fun flying he's ever had.

I have a cousin who is a captain down there and two others who are ex chief's. Their dad was the VP of ops some years back. I've already made it through the big Rosetta Stone set. I'm hoping that the time I spend down there to convert my commercial rating will round out my Spanish. Pepe, I'll probably be applying same time as you.

    Guys,

Let me know when you get here. I started in Avianca a couple of months ago. If there is anything you guys need, just let me know.
