Default TSO versus non-TSO'd...

I need to put a DG in a 1965 Cessna 172F.

Does it need to be one with a TSO? What’s the difference between a TSO and non-TSO’d DG?

Thanks!

"To ensure that aircraft perform reliably the FAA requires that alll installed parts and appliances conform to technical standard orders (TSOs). TSOs are a set of specifications that call for parts to meet certain quality standards. A TSO stamp on a part means that the part meets FAA requirements for manufacturing quality, and is approved for installation on aircraft." Straight from the Jepp manual I used in A&P school. Also look for a PMA stamp. That means IIRC that it is approved as a replacement part.

Your safest bet would be to get a hold of the aircraft IPC, if available, and put in what it calls for.
