Default Advice on getting a JOB

So I just got out of the Marine Corps after 5 years as an F/A-18 Airframer. I think I did a good thing by getting my A&P before I got out, but I don't seem to be getting any bites on the resumes I post. What are company's looking for, and how can I spice up my resume a bit more? Also, any reccomendations on what I need to have as far as tools? I know we all need our own tools, but do I need all the big one's too, or will a basic line box do?
