| Boeing's new 777 freighter is all over a.net right now and I'm not understanding why this plane is considered "new" and therefore has to go through the flight testing/certification process. What makes a 777F different than a regular 777-200LR on which its based? It just seems that the only difference between them is freighters have a large side door and a stronger floor...??

| Old Skool | Its needs a new certification for exactly the reasons you mentioned. They cut a huge hole in the side of the airplane, put in a different floor, and probably increased the MTOW. They have some of the baseline measurements from the -200LR, but it's a bunch of work to even get an STC for a part 25 piston single, say noting of an STC for a part 23 large transport.
