Default Freighter Question

Boeing's new 777 freighter is all over a.net right now and I'm not understanding why this plane is considered "new" and therefore has to go through the flight testing/certification process. What makes a 777F different than a regular 777-200LR on which its based? It just seems that the only difference between them is freighters have a large side door and a stronger floor...??

Default Re: Freighter Question

Its needs a new certification for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

They cut a huge hole in the side of the airplane, put in a different floor, and probably increased the MTOW. They have some of the baseline measurements from the -200LR, but it's a bunch of work to even get an STC for a part 25 piston single, say noting of an STC for a part 23 large transport.
