Default Mag compass correction?

I noticed on my last flight that there is a small magnet bar located directly behind the mag compass, it is glued to the dash. I was repositioning my GPS remote antenna on the dash and I accidentally dislodged the magnet. Now my mag compass is WAY off, about 210+ degrees. I can still see the outline from the glue where the bar magnate was placed. Should I just tape it back at that same position with the correct polarity side facing up?

Why would there be the need for a magnet bar to be placed behind the compass anyway? Does that mean the compass is no longer usable? I am now very apprehensive taking this plane in IFR conditions knowing the mag compass is corrected by a little magnetic bar.

What should I do?
